PS3 - Flashing Red Light problem? Is it completely knackered?

I was wondering if anyone could help?

Was watching Night at the Museum 2 the other night and the PS3 decided to just stop working with the disc inside!

Now when you turn it on it basically flashes yellow a bit then carries on to red & does nothing - is this completely dead?

I've done a few google searches which indicate hairdryers etc but very reluctant to try it!

Anyone had this problem before & know what is best to do - ring Sony (it is outside of warranty as it was bought almost 4 years ago) or cut our losses and buy a new one?

Thanks (& rep) in advance to anyone that can help

Ahhhh! A bit disappointed I suppose as it was a 60gb - although I suppose we didn't make use of that fact very much.

    Looks like new it is!

Anyone know if the parts are worth anything?

Oh and thanks to you all by the way

Sell it on ebay, if your not willing to get it fixed. Used to sell from £80 up.

New drive if it is definetly that is £99 last year. Give them a ring to see how much.

I never said I wasn't willing as such - I just don't fancy messing with a hairdryer :whistling:

    Thanks again you two

My brother in law did this and it works again. He has a few screws left over but it seems ok.
