PS3 - HDMI cable question

My mate just phoned me there asking something

he says he connected the HDMI cable up to his tv and the channel had HDMI written at the top left so it was def on the right channel.
all he had was a black screen and could hear the music etc of the game but the screen was just black.
He tried using the scart connetion thing with the yellow etc wires and the picture was there, altho using the HDMI cable there was the a black screen

anyone had this problem or know the answer as what it could be?

How do you do that SpecialK? thanks for replying

After you get into the menus, you can go into system display settings and change the display to HDMI, then switch over to Video 8 (or whatever your TV is) to display 1080p/1080i/720p

hi a couple of things,

1/ You aure he had it on the screen long enough, as when you use HDMIit can take 20-30 seconds to output picture even thou sound is coming out?

2/ you could try holding the reset button down when turning it on (so go from the red light to the green light) until hearing the 2nd beep. This will reset the graphic output and you will see a box pop up saying the console can see HDMI would you like to use it, select Yes and then No to the Automatically select the best setting (as the Auto is rubbish) so once you can see the screen go to the settings and change the Graphics to what you want wither 720P, 1080i or 1080P and then the sound output.
Make sure you do this with only the HDMI cable plugged in.

Hope that helps, PM me if you want me to explain it better, I have to do this every day at work lol

put scart back in go into settings then go into display settings change video output too hdmi.screen will go blank and should find the hdmi connection.remove the scart lead

some do some dont.mine wouldnt so thats how i got round it

if you hold the rest button down with the HDMI plugged in and nothing else, you will not have to swap cables, just hold the reset button down until you hear the 2nd beep and it is nearly Automatic

I have had to reset mine a couple of times.. just hold the power for long enough

what type of work do you do chuckles?

It appears that the resolution settings clash.

While the TV is on, press and hold the reset button until you see a display.
