The PS3 comes with component video/audio (yellow, red, white) cables, so yep, you can plug it in your nomal TV.

What's your budget for a TV?
40" TV's are more common than 42"s these days for some reason. Are you hell bent on a 42 or willing to go either way a bit?

Best bet is keep your eyes peeled on here for TV deals and see what everyone says about them.

Yellow, Red & White is Composite + L/R audio. I'm not sure what cable the PS3 ships with I haven't looked.

Thanks!! Would be nothing worse than not being able to play your xmas pressie!!!!
No not fussed on size really, 40" would be fine. Only got a 28" CRT type at the mo, so anything better than that!
Just want it to be full HD (1080 - am i right?) Was hoping around the £600 mark, but would need a stand.

A HD Ready TV (720p) would do fine if you're working to a tight budget.

where is the cheapest place for the hdmi cable (1.3 version I believe we are on)

    I have 720p, PS3 games look great.

    Composite. Yes.

It comes with the PS3 connector to video + LR audio and a SCART adapter. Either plug the 3 cables into your TV directly or through a SCART socket.

720p TV's are fine, However if your really intent on getting a 1080P, Then I can highly recommend Sony KDL40*4000. *either L, V or W (Higher the letter, Higher the spec). Think they all have the same internal screen and have great reviews.

    I've got the KDL40L4000 and it's great.

does anyone know the cheapest place to buy a hdmi cable?

I got a decent Philips cable from Tesco for £6.97.

They've got Value HDMI leads for About £4.97 but quality wasn't that good and thought I might as well pay a couple of quid more for the Philips cable.

I thought only length (you need) was important as it is a digital signal ?

The Samsung LE40A55* TVs are going for under 550 pounds now, 1080p panel and decent televisions.

Not very clear in this thread, but you CAN play PS3 on your normal CRT TV, there are two options, the Red, Yellow, White connectors, or there is a socket included so that it plugs into SCART

dont get taken in by this 1080 rubbish. you wont notice any difference with a 720 set unless you plan on sitting very close (within 4 foot on a 42" TV). Actually, you will notice a big difference (the price!).

the people who say the opposite are also the ones saying spend a lot of money on an HDMI cable too :-D
