I can't seem to find the thread from a week or so back. My question can the USB stick boot up PS3s that have suffered YLOD? I think I read somewhere that the team that made the USB stick, has the code which employees at the sony repair centres use to boot up YLOD PS3s.

Yeah but not UK

Variation on releases too, some possibly legal as they dont involve game back ups.

cool-Im guessing its all pointless anyways-sony will kill em in about five minutes and make the ps3 virtually useless without the updates methinks.will probably be possible to play backups of older back catalogue games, but not new ones. And no online capability either I spose.

But if a variation is released where it's legal, it will allow for all types of modding that doesnt include game back ups.

eg allow XBMC to be installed to use PS3 as a media centre.

All depends on whether/how Sony can detect it. Early stages at the moment so all speculation but already there are ones being relased in UK for around £20. Worth looking at the other thread regarding it.

Sony can detect it as all developer mode ps3 have a code eg d1234 as the system Id currently all jailbreak tools have the same Id and seeing as they only sold probably 100 dev kit ps3s and then 6 million pop up overnight it's easy to trace although if you never go online then youl be fine

id imagine in a month or two the info on these dongles will of been extracted and modified to download for free and install on any usb stick

Done already, won't work on any usb stick though.

Works on a USB dev board, available for around £20.

So worth looking for a ps3 with a knackered optical drive then?

Except how do you get the games on the hard drive then....

1. Download them
2. Use your other PS3 to rip them (if buying faulty one for second unit)
3. Borrow a friend's hard drive
4. Use PC BD drive when that option is available

In other words there are many ways. Considering grabbing one myself for the spare room.

The downloaded games are already hitting NZBs, so newsgroups full of games will start filtering through, just like there is for the 360's.
