no, they have to consider the purchase date of the item and not when it was registered.

ok my PS3 just YLOD if I ring then a said that I got in a few months ago id there anyway of them checking as they are asking me to pay £130 for replacement. they wont take away the charge

    so do you have a 40gb ps3?

they will probably ask for the receipt as proof of the date of purchase

they will likely ask for proof of purchase. Besides if you for the phat version of the ps3 they will know you got this ages ago, they might also check the serial number to see when this was produced.

Not much you can do matey, by all means try.

    Good luck.

they say they would receive the replacement on Monday when they pickup the broken one.

do u mean Sony said you would receive a replacement on Monday?

Are they going to charge you for the replacement? They will probably just let you have refurb one, I would be wrong though.

yeah they said that I would get it monday and it wouyld cost me £135 I hears lots of people getting the charge removed but they where refusing to do so.

The UK Sale of Goods Act already offers us protection against faulty goods even when the manufacturer’s guarantee has run out and says that goods must last a “reasonable time” – which can be claimed anything up to 6 years from the date of purchase.

I would think you'd have to get a report from a repairer to confirm that the appliance has not been mis-used and is not working due a manufacturing fault.

If you hadn't already called them, I could've hooked you up.
You should have waited to get some answers before calling them.

saint hooked me up with what let me know. What Sales of good act info do I need to know I might ring them up again and tell them about the sales of good act ( I know someone on the official PS forums got the charge removed by just mentioning them)

With the SoGA you need to prove that there was a manufacturing problem with the PS3 which caused it to break down, and that it didn't just break because of something you did.

The proof you need is a report from an independent engineer. Not sure where could do this for a games console, but you could try ringing around local computer shops and seeing if they'll do it.

But, by all means, try just mentioning it first before resorting to getting a report to make them take notice. That's my take on it - might not necessarily be correct as I'm only going by what others have posted in the past.

to be honest the YLOD is a common fault with the older version of the ps3. It may not be necessary to get a engineer report.

Op, maybe try to find some information on the net about the YLOD and then phone them back up with some facts and mention the sale of good acts. If that doesn't get you anywhere then you have have to get an engineer report (which is just basically a repairer saying it is a manufacturing fault).

    Good luck bud

They are correct. The S.O.G.A cuts no weight with Sony, as they didn't sell you anything, so have nil obligation to do anything for you.

If you hadn't called them, I could've done something, but you've given them to much information now.

Your only recourse is with the retailer, but the chances of them doing anything are slim, but you may have a slim chance, but be prepared to slog it out.

The Sony route could've been done within 48 hours if you'd held your horses.

I am thinking get it replaced for £134 from sony

the saint could you help me if I had any problems with the refurb.

really would want to pay iot again if I had the same problem with the refurb.

    What model is yours?
    If it's anything other than a 60GB, it's not worth doing. If it's a 60GB, it's marginal.
