PS3 Slim Dead; Anyone Have Same Issue?

14 Month old PS3 Slim has packed in, no disco lights nothing exciting it just suddenly cuts out and loses all power.

Only way to get any life out of it is to unplug the AC cord leave it for 30 seconds then plug back in. It will happily reboot then depending upon how it feels will just cut out after 2 or 10mins again.

Anyone have this issue? I think the PSU is forked but am reluctant to throw £55 notes at it if someone has experience of it being something else.

My 250gb slim died about 8 months after purchase, wasnt used much and was never left on when not in use. Kept coming up with a message about overheating, luckily was still under warrenty.

Phone Sony, tell them it's 10 months old. They should replace it for free within 48 hours at your door. DO NOT tell them it was from ebay if you got it from there. Make sure it's a well known company. NOT online or they will ask for bank statement. Say you bought it in a shop with some saved up xmas/bday money and paid cash.

It did cross my mind but who do I chase that with? It was bought from Comet online, and I have read that SOGA basically means the consumer has to prove there was a fault with the machine at point of purchase, it could cost me getting a tech report done to prove that, even then I could have to go through small clams court. PITA and thats why a lot of the time most retailers will smile and say "SOGA? Go for it"

Buy a new one from tesco. . Clean the old one up and swap them. . Take the refund or sell ur working spare as brand new and sealed. . Works everytime as long as ur items are in good condition

I had same problem, exactly the same issue as you! 13 months old, randomly started tripping out. Never had much use either and theres a suprising lack of info on this subject online too! I did find a couple of youtube tutorials on 'adjusting' the psu, which I have just carried out, and so far so good... BUT, new PSU's can be bought online for about £40, which isnt too bad at all really. Frustrating yes, but trade in a couple of old games or something and its almost paid for.

Fixed it, took PSU out and it turns out SONY changed the model I had shortley after to a self regulating PSU. My PSU has 2 potentiometers that can be adjusted, all I had to do was give the PSU a little 'breathing' space in terms of voltage tolerances. A quick turn of the potentiometer adjusters (1/10th of a millimeter) to the left and its been running like a dream since March.
