Can't see any deals out there - I'm interested too. ...

Know Very had some cash back deal but also read some people didn't get the promised cash back.....

Seems PS4 Pro (and PS VR) are holding their prices. .....

Is a PS4 Pro really worth the outlay? I've the original PS4 and I still get HDR mode on my UHD tv with 4K enabled games.

If you can get HDR I'd say PS4 Pro isn't worth it; I've seen it in action.... it's slightly sharper on games that have been patched for 4K/PS4 Pro BUT it's only slight (obviously some games will be better than others) and once playing you don't really notice as you're engrossed in the game. ...

Also, I've read HDR gives better results than 4K......

So if I were you I'd simply hold off till you eventually do see a good PS4 Pro deal. ..

    That's assuming you need a 2nd PS4...

    Good luck

HDR mode currently only works on the menu screen on the base PS4, need the pro to get HDR gaming.

The fact is the PlayStation 4 was released in 2013. Normal console life is around 7years. They have released the "pro" or 4.5 for full price and it boasts a slightly better processor (which is irrelevant as games MUST support the ps4) and slightly better graphics.

However the developers must decide whether to allow their games to be upscaled whilst the games made have to be made for the PS4.
The argument whether to buy or not is irrelevant, every pro owner will say yes it's amazing every none pro will say it's not worth it. Fact is if you can afford a while new console for better graphics when chances are another console will be released in the next 3 years...then Knock yourself out. Is it worth upgrading? For some prettier games? Not for me

    False see firmware update 4.50

Considering the PS4 isn't on 4.50 I have no idea what you are on about. Do you mean the future update with hard drive support? Because that mentions nothing about HDR or how about although you can do 1080 HDR but nobody is gonna develop it, same reason for there being no HDR 1080 TVs because just like your comment it's pointless

No just better graphic, Higher and more stable frame rate is also an important factor. If you are getting a PS4, this is the one to get, but yeah upgrading wise,i not sure if it worth the £200+ ( if you can sell the old ps4 for £150)

Pro owner here. It doesn't offer a huge improvement over the base model at present to be honest. I sold my PS4 and took advantage of the Very offer (had no trouble with them, although I know other have) so I'm happy with my 'upgrade' but it definitely doesn't measure up to native 4k games on my PC.

It depends what you want out of the hardware really. Like others have said, update 4.50 will improve stability on most games, but predominantly if you're running at 1080p rather than at higher resolutions. I'd recommend it if you're a tech nerd like me or really want to see the Sony exclusives running at their best, or simply if you have a shiny new 4k TV and want to get some more use out of it. The extra performance the Pro offers will prove more useful going forward, especially as games become more demanding and the original PS4 struggles to maintain 1080p/30fps (looking at Horizon Zero Dawn etc), but it's definitely not for everyone and it doesn't have that "new console feel" when you fire it up for the first time.

I would like to thank you for sharing your perspective. You have convinced me upgrading is not something I wish to do. What I really want now instead is for Microsoft to release the 'xbox one s' in black. It is frustrating holding out simply for a colour variation that may never emerge.

Maybe wait for the Xbox Scorpio which is due out this Christmas...

Whilst specs haven't been released as yet it's said to be a far more powerful console than the PS4 Pro.... said to be a fully fledged 4K gaming console etc....

Said to have a built in 4K blu-ray player...

    Won't be cheap - I reckon £400

"The Xbox Scorpio is all set to bring revolutionary trends in the world of gaming technology. It seems promising in being a great gaming tool. It will be compatible with rich 4K resolution. The console is a perfect successor to the Xbox One. It will operate on Windows 10 and it is capable of beating other top-notch consoles. The Xbox Scorpio will sport Octa-core processor and six teraflops of processing capacity. It will have enough storage of 320GB. Reports have detailed that the Scorpio will be 40% faster and better than the PlayStation 4 Pro.

The Xbox Scorpio will accompany two significant upgrades. Besides rendering a 4K gaming experience, it will come with Hi-fidelity VR support. The console is reported to be fueled by AMD. No more insights are detailed to guarantee AMD chip that it will be incorporated in Scorpio. But some leaks show that the console could be powered by Vega chipset.

AMD said in an announcement that the company is glad that Microsoft has extended their Xbox One group of gadgets with two new consoles including AMD’s superior semi-custom SoCs that is compatible with exciting new advances like HDR, 4K, and Hi-Fi VR to empower coming era of advanced gaming technology. The Scorpio will offer full support for VR. However, the console won’t accompany a VR headset. Rather, it will be compatible with VR headsets from different manufacturers.

In addition to this, using the console players can enjoy all Xbox One games on the Scorpio which is exquisite news for the users. This feature will render the Xbox One games have a new lease of life. This compatibility is indeed admirable effort by the company.

As said by Spencer that he is not attempting to run and contend with a top of the line consoles. Since the company is working one spec, it is ready to maintain the balance between every one of the parts and ensure that it will be appealing to buyers. Reports from various sources detailed that the console will be available at $400 and it is expected to make its appearance by the end of this year."

Note - specs haven't been confirmed as yet....

All speculation at the moment. ...

As for me I have both a PS4 and Xbox One.

Both are brilliant in their own rights.. Hard to say one is better than the other.

That said my preference is PS4. But both are great.

I'd love a PS4 Pro but outlay was too much - especially as I don't have a 4K TV. Was hoping to get a PS4 Pro cheap but prices are holding. ...

I'm going to consider the Xbox Scorpio - price and specs dependant......

Thank you to you too for all this information. I think you are on the right track here and holding out for the Scorpio would indeed seem to be the best thing to do.
