PSA: Two-Factor Authentication now available for Sony/PlayStation accounts - activate now to protect your account

It's been a long time coming, but this week finally saw Sony allowing the use of two-factor authentication to protect your PlayStation/Sony Entertainment Network accounts, via SMS verification codes.

Details and activation links available here: playstation.com/en-…on/

I'd highly recommend that everyone enables this on their account, *especially* if you have it linked to a credit card or PayPal. Don't be that person who suffers an account hack and resulting financial loss! I've had this enabled on my account for a few days now and it's really not much additional hassle.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll sort this on mine

Make sure after you add your phone number you enable it.

I tested mine and it didn't work. When I went back to the link above, it showed that I had added a phone number, but said it was inactive.

You need to edit it, click on your phone number, then enable it. Then you will be text another code to enable it.

Very useful, thanks. I was waiting for this.

If you never stored payment details after a transaction you could have reduced the risk of financial loss many years ago.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I had this enabled late on Friday. I then received over 30 and 40 verification codes by SMS throughout Saturday and Sunday. There must be some bots out there trying to hack into PSN accounts non-stop!

It is absolutely horrifying how this must have been going on unknown to me for God knows how long before I setup this 2 stage authentication.

I wonder whether if Sony actually ban these IPs for too many failed attempts.
