Im at my wits end with this. I have a slim PS2 (Bought second hand - off here actually a couple of months ago) and it just keeps shutting down back to standby for no reason.

It has no problem reading discs or anything, but at random times (ill be lucky to get 10 minutes play out of it at a time) it will just cut off, straight to standby again.

I thought originally it was overheating but now its doing it from a cold start sometimes after a few seconds so im not sure its that.

Ive changed the power supply to see if that was the problem. But i dont know what else to do now, apart from scrap it

Can anyone suggest anything?

Probably a loose connection inside the PS2 and when the disc gets spinning the vibration knocks it out again.

so is it worth me taking it all apart then just to have a nose around. not that i would know where to start!

I have actually tried gently shaking the ps2 to see if i could force it to shut down, but that didnt do it. Seems to do it when it wants to

Might as well.........as otherwise you are going to chuck it anyway. There is not much to them when you take them apart so shouldn't do any damage. Just be careful removing the casing.

Maybe it's dying then. The Slim's aren't as reliable as the old fat ones unfortunately.

I had a PS2 with this problem the problem with mine was one of the pins on the power jack / mobo connection had been damaged (by putting the power cable in too hard etc)
