    PSU question?

Hi all just wondering if anyone could expain to me a couple of things about psu rails as unsure on it.

I have this psu at the min ebuyer.com/pro…861 and have just upgraded my 9600gt to a bfg gtx260 oc but having a few problems i.e the fan on the card is not spinning the card is overheating and crashing due to heat (I belive)
My friend has said that he thinks its not enough power getting to the gfx card therefore the fan is not spinning as he's had something similar so my question is will this psu
    ebuyer.com/pro…861
    power this gfx card

if someone could enlightent me with the rails etc that would be great as it says you need a min of 40amps to run the card but looking at the rails on the psu it only says 18 im confused?

Th psu you have should be plenty powerful to run a GTX 260.Is the fan not spinning at all /.
The OCZ has four 18amp rails so is plenty and the fan would spin even if the PSU is massively underpowered,If the fan is not spinning then you have a faulty card,You have connected the 2 6pin connectors to the card ?.

fitted a couple of times, thinking faulty card but wasnt sure with the power and not sure about all this rail thing. what does it mean about the 40amp? looking at the psu it only says 18?

    yes both 6 pins connected

Do you add all the 18's or something to get the 40amp required?

It requires 40 amps on the 12v rail but this is usually around double what you actually need ,Your PSU has 4 x 18 amps on the 12v rail ( total 72 amps ) so has plenty,

But the fan would spin regardless of the PSU,The fan only uses a tiny amount of power so you either have a dud card or a dud fan or a lose connection to the fan,

Did you buy it new,BFG cards have a rally good warranty apparently, You could try uninstalling the drivers and then start up the pc with the card in and the fan should spin at full speed until the drivers are installed this will tell you if you have a faulty card or faulty fan,

surely the drivers wouldnt have an effect on the fan spinning? i never got the installing the drivers as it goes off before i get there

Usually the fan will spin full speed until the drivers are loaded which will then set the fan speed,Does windows load and roughly how long does it take for the display to stop working ?.

make sure you haven't caught the little cable from the fan to its connector on the gfx board when u fitted the card,
with the card removed blow hard on the fan to see if it spins and make sure no vibration or noise coming from it.
other than that its prob a faulty temp sensor on the gfx card

+1 on the warranty - if you bought new, get it replaced. Even if it is just the fan (as sounds likely). The chances of the PSU powering the rest of the system but not the gfx card fan are, well, pretty slim - and that's being overly charitable.
