hi, my son is wanting a PSVR for Christmas. currently he has a ps4 and the camera.

what pack would I need? there seems various bundles around.

also, are there specialist games for them?

and the PSVR comparable games, are they just a few levels in the main game that are comparable on the headset or is it the full game?

forgive my lack of knowledge on this, and thank in advance for any help

The PSVR Mega Pack is amazing value imo. And it drops to a really good price around this time of year. However some of those games might not be for youngsters like Doom and Skyrim. But still a bargain for that bundle nonetheless.

Seeing as you already have a PS4 camera then you would just need the headset only rather than a bundle with the camera such as the VR Worlds of Mega Bundle. In terms of games one of the best ones is the VR Playroom which is a great one for families and is available to download for free from the PS Store. Moss and Astrobot Rescue Mission are both fantastic games for younger players.

If you buy a headset it should come with all the cables as well as what's called the "breakout box" which is that headset plugs in to and connects to the PS4 console. You can play normal PS4 non-VR games on the VR headset without a TV in Cinema Mode in which basically the view in your VR headset is like sitting in a cinema looking at the big screen. However in practice you wouldn't really want to play a non-VR game like this as the resolution looks a lot more fuzzy or grainy than on a crisp tv screen and it's maybe not so comfortable for extended sessions. Better sticking to a TV/monitor for playing normal games.

Thanks, so when they say PSVR compatible. Is that what they mean. It will play on the headset?

Or is there something extra?

Evil dead 7 for example.

Psvr compatible means they will play in VR. You can play any Ps4 game with the headset on but it won't be in VR, instead you just get a simulated screen in the headset

As was said in the answer above, PSVR Compatible means that it is an actual VR game (or like Tekken 7 it has some VR content). There are plenty of VR demos and experiences that can downloaded for free from the Playstation Store by the way. I think that they are 3 volumes of PSVR demo packs to be had as well as many standalone demos.
I recommend installing Rec Room when you get the PSVR. It's also free from the PS Store. He will be able to play a ton of online games with other users/youngsters.There is always something to do. You can also be as creative as you want, even designing your own rooms/games.

Thanks people
Might need ps4 move controllers for some PSVR games (many seem to allow the regular joypad though).

3d BluRay movies work with psvr too by the way.
