Purchased a counterfeit item off ebay

A jacket, recently purchased from ebay for £100, turned up today. I'm normally quite careful with clothing transactions, the seller has 1000+ ratings at 99% feedback.

I know for certain that this is a fake jacket as I have exactly the same jacket purchased from an official outlet. The differences are at a glance very sublte, without comparing them side by side.

I have spoken to ebay twice today, making it clear to them that I believe the item to be fake. Both times they have advised me to return the item for a full refund which the seller has offered.

The seller is offering a large number of other items of the same 'make' for sale. I don't want to return it just for it to be sold to someone else. Advice appreciated.

I thought it was against the law to them reost back a fake item bought on ebay, or so i have read on here before from people who have had simular experiences to you. I think you would have to take said item to a retailer for them to confirm it was fake and then paypal would refund you.

    Take it to trading standards

that is what i hate about ebay, think you'll have to just take your refund and then maybe try reporting the items to ebay and inform them you believe them to be fake. whether they do anything or not is questionable. had the same prob myself with a signed book. ebay are just not interested

take it and get out of your problem:thinking: and let others worry about there's surely:?

You don't expect designer stuff you buy from ebay to be genuine do you !!!

You can't send counterfeit items through royal mail I don't know what the other carriers t&c's are but I have looked this up recently, got to keep a fake Nokia battery with a refund too, only lasts 2hrs so pointless anyway.

What make was it? How can you prove it, otherwise EBAY wont give a hoot unless the designer is on vero.

return it and leave negative feedback to warn others, otheriwse you will have to go to the trouble of getting a genmuine retailer to authenticate it as fake and send this onfo to ebay/paypal

I'm going to take it to the official shop tomorrow, who've said they'll confirm whether of not it's a fake.

you will need written confirmation on headed paper from said retailer i believe, maybe the seller will say you have exchanged it with your fake item, hope they aint a member here :w00t:

just out of curiousity how much is the jacket to be from retailer

Yep commit a crime by sending counterfit items through the post, if caught just blame eBay i'm sure you will be ok.

Out of interest how much did your genuine coat cost?

I sell a lot of genuine designer stuff on ebay - I purchase on visits to usa from department stores which always have sales. I make a good profit over here and do not rip of my customers

You need to get an official letter from an authorised person to tell you it's fake (the shop staff for the product or trading standards) then start a paypal dispute and send them a fax of the letter. You should then get your refund and no return of goods. TS will dispose of the goods. I would ring them in the morning.

I have no interest in keeping it, and yes perhaps I was gullible this time but I don't particularly why someone would find this hilarious? What I am interested in is receiving a refund and more importantly, if possible, preventing other gullible people from purchasing goods fromthis seller.

Seriously, you knew the jacket retails at £300+ and believed someone would sell one for a ton?

You never heard of "If it seems too good to be true then..........."?

Wow. All I wanted was a bit of advice from other ebay users about what to do in the event of having being sent counterfeit goods and ebay not being interested. I didn't expect a character assasination. I'm not even going to bother disputing your accusation though as there is obviously no way to prove you wrong.

what make was it please? as i was watching a fake jacket on ebay and couldnt believe it went for £100.

Chill I was joking about the correction > hence the whistling emoticon.

Speak to Paypal by phone, not text chat.

Happened to me once. The Paypal advisor in the text chat based problem resolution thing kept telling me to send it back. One phone call to Paypal and I had an instant refund and was able to simply throw the shirt in the bin.

If you need to take it to a shop to see if it is " real " or not, why bother, just keep it, it was probably made in the same sweat shop that the so called " designer " company uses anyway.

have you contacted the seller about it? i purchased some Y-3 trainers and they were blatant fakes when received, under the insole was made of cardboard......contacted him and he refunded me return postage and all:)

all depends if you are a "do-gooder" or a "grass" at the end of the day, if hes amicable then so be it

    your choice

I don't think it's being a do gooder if you find passing off fakes on Ebay unacceptable.
