How did they get pin numbers etc. I thought you still needed pin numbers to withdraw money over the counters in post offices etc.

    you do.

We can ALL empathis with you on that one I think......

Same thing happened to my friend too, they took it out of her bag.....

No matter how many times we try to be vigilent, and lock them away and so on....

The ...... always find a way . and what is worse in some respects is the fact that you also lose all the little bits of things that you also keep in your purse.

    Poor friend

    >>>

why on earth wud u only take out £10 from the postoffice, if ur gonna do it at all, at least make it worth it not worth nicking for a tenner

They were either written down or they followed her from a cash point or chip and pin transaction after seeing the pin typed.

My grandad used to do that. It drove us crazy but he couldnt remember the pin numbers, my uncle eventually persuaded him to change the pin to be the last three digits on the card followed by a 6. It was considered slightly safer.
As someone already said its all the little bits of junk you accumulate, that you miss more than anything. :friends:

it happened to my mother in law last year ,that time they got £150

Never write down PIN numbers - that's just stupid. If you can't remeber 3333 or 7777 or your birthday (for example July 22 is 2207) then you've got a bigger problem than people stealing all your cash. I'm not saying that stealing is ok, it clearly isn't , but stories like this result in a much bigger problem - people end up mistrusting others and being suspicious of strangers. I get really angry when little old ladies stop in the middle of the pavement because they can hear someone walking behind them or constantly check over their shoulder in a queue... treating everyone as criminals is very wrong - things like this don't happen all the time, most people have morals and can be trusted.

    Just my 2p.

Are you serious or is this a wind up?

When I couldn't remember my PIN I wrote a mini shopping list out and put in in my purse. The first four items on the list relate to your PIN so if your PIN is 4276 (not mine I might add in case anyone wants to track me down for my card!!) then you could put Dog biscuits (d - 4th letter), Bread (b - 2nd letter), Gravy (g - 7th letter) & Fish (f - 6th letter), then add a few more items to make it less obvious. Basically, just disguise your PIN in a code that you'll remember, great for elderly or the forgetful.

i would forget that code as well though!

Why not just REMEMBER the PIN? If you can't remember four numbers how will you remember where you keep the peice of paper with four numbers on it? I think the problem is that people don't understand how to change their number and that's where some people might need a hand...

    What about the elderly?

Who allowed them to have bank accounts? Eh? Own up!

I guessing the number of people that can't remember the same number 4 times or another easy variation is very, very small... the same group that don't remember they need to buy food to avoid hunger or breathe in and out to avoid dying!

I think it's much more likely that they don't know they can change their PIN, or how to...

This isn't about the elderly but its like them with cars, if they get too old and their joints start seizing up and their sight fades, they are not able to drive anymore.
If they cant remember 4 numbers, then go inside and get the money from over the counter... And before you say it - What if the bank is closed? My answer is go to the bank during opening hours to get enough money out to last so they don't have to make repeat trips.

I hate the climate of fear and worry.

    I HATE IT.

Some people are too scared to leave the house. Parents are scared to let their kids out of the house. Everyone locks, double locks and triple locks their houses before arming a security system that puts MI5 to shame.

Listen. Bad things happen. They've always happened. Crime isn't escalating. Why isn't the media reassuring people that the world is safe? Because it doesn't make for entertaining broadcasts.

I really hope I don't need to directly point out when I am joking. For the record, old people are awesome.
