Put on short time, what can I claim?

    Hi all,

Today we have all been put on short time at work (3 days, 24.75 hours)

We are all going to struggle, so i wondered if anyone has any advice. ?

Can i claim anything? Get any help with bills or debts? where to go?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thanks all x

Can't help either sorry but sorry to hear of your situation. Hope things improve quickly.

I would imagine Jobcentreplus would be your first port of call to see what you're entitled to.

Aw thanks everyone! I will try the Job centre, i keep seeing things about 15 hours a week so i think i am working too many hours to claim :-(

you cant claim help unless you are working 16hours a week or less! it sucks mate! you could maybe get an emergency loan from jobcenterplus but thats about it!

depends on if you have kids, if so working tax credits.
if you rent you may be able to clain housing benifit
if you havnt got kids you can claim working tax credit (i think) its not much but it may help.

go to citizens advice for help with debt management if you think you may get into debt.
if you have mortage explain situation, you may be able to transfer to interest only for a while.
    hope that helps a little.

Do you pay for redundancy cover with your mortgage? If so contact them as you maybe entitled to a percentage of it paid.

Also if you are going to look for another job to do as well contact the Inland revenue as normally a 2nd job is charged a full tax rate. You may get a reduction due to your decreased hours.

    Good luck anyway.

You will probably be entitled to housing and council tax benefit at least.
working tax credits..you dont need to have children to claim them.

If you have no kids you need to be working a minimum of 30 hours to claim working tax credits.

It's not the end of the world. Besides the benefit / credits route, there's always the possibility of a second job. I don't know what you get paid at the moment, but weekend work in retail might help, particularly with the benefit of Sunday rates. It could keep you going until a proper full-time job crops up, anyway.

    Good luck.

hi sorry to hear your bad news but if you have debts to pay why not try going to your citizens advice to see if they can help

When it comes to debt, pay as little as you can to repay it, but if its a loan or overdraft etc... where you have to pay interest, make it your priorty to pay it off first, it took me a year to get out of debt,
I never used the home phone unless it was urgent.
Swiched of the sky and just had the freeview.
Never used the mobile used the internet as its free
Paid everything on standing order not Direct Debits so I had control of my money ( so internet banking would be ideal for that)
and worked out ways to reduce my electric
Ebay is a fantastic was to make money I sold all my C**p even all the freebies I received off the internet:whistling:
Try Martin Lewis he has some fantastic ways to help you in times of trouble
    Good Luck:thumbsup:
