pvr/dvd recorder with twin tuners and usb support (able to read/write from/to external source)

    Hi

I am looking for a unit (with hard-drive) that can record from an external source (e.g. SKY which I have at the moment or FREEVIEW or ...) and also be able to read/write to a USB drive (hard or flash).

The reason for a DVD drive like this is that I have lots of old DVDs which I would like to transfer to this unit. The only two possible ways that I can think of are either with DVD read/write or a USB connection. Also, could it also transfer my recording from the unit to DVD/flash drive?

Does such a thing exist or am I barking up a wrong tree? I know Philips do a 160 gig dvd recorder with USB connection but it doesn't have a twin tuner.

    Any comments, ideas welcome. Thanks.

    Robie.

I'm not aware of a DVD recorder with a twin tuner.

Why would you want to transfer DVDs onto it?

So that I can have it all on the hard drive without having to put in DVDs all the time. Perhaps, I can convert my DVDs (these are personal dvds with contents going back 30 years or so not movies) to AVI files and put them on the hard drive. Or put them on a portable hard drive and connect it to this unit so that I can then watch whatever I want from the connected portable hard drive.

Buy a PS3, it's good for archiving personal movies

I'm in the process of doing this ,transfering my DVD's to hard drive , but ,I'm converting them to Divx/Xvid.
I own a LITEON DVD/HDD player/recorder so I can record from various sources and keep on the drive or transfer to DVD .But , I'm yet to find an all in one unit , so my choice is to rip my DVD's to divx/xvid and keep them on a small external drive and buy a Divx player , the ones that accept SD cards and have USB ports .I have those tiny Zif hard drives ,the ones out of ipods and have already tried putting movies onto these to play back through a laptop and it works great .I bought 2 external media players many years ago from Maplin and they work well to ,but are big and cumbersome to carry around .So, the best option is to keep them all on mini drives and use a USB Divx player . I have heard the ones they sell at Lidl are ideal .
