    Query about broadband dongle

I've given my dad an old computer and am going to give him a pre-loaded 3 broadband dongle which has 12gb/12 months usage on it.

When plugged in, will there be lots of automatic windows updates that will use up loads of his allowance and if so is there a way round this?

    thank you

Put the updates (or at least the big ones such as SP3) on a CD (look for the re distributable packages)?

That or just update it at your house...

    +1
you need the updates especially if he is not wised up to dodgy websites etc.
Plug it in at home make sure the virus checker if up to date as well

If he's mostly gonna be using it for the web, you might wanna look into putting ubuntu on it instead... then no need for virus scanner etc and already comes with firefox ready to go.... and uses much less resources than windows too, so might be much faster for him on an older PC... just a suggestion.
