    Query regarding new debit card

    Hello all.

I was wandering if any of you fine people could help me.
I requested a replacement debit card from Santander last week, because my current one has snapped.
I received my new card two days ago, but I can't use it yet as I'm still waiting for the new PIN to arrive.

Now here's what I need to know. I have my current card (the snapped one) registered with many online retailers because I do a lot of my shopping online. Will I have to update my card details to the new one, or will I still be able to make online purchases as before, without having to make any changes?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm sure you have to update your card with all of them.,
check if the 16 digit number is same, but as i said most of time its different and cvc number is different,

you might have to update the details as the last 3 digits on the signature strip might be different or the expire date, but if there the same then id think your ok to use online.

Yeah they are different. Thanks people.
I've got A LOT of updating to do now

you wont receive a new pin if its only a replacement card only if you reported it lost or stolen, and as above the 3 digit no. on the back will be different, the issue no. and expiry date

Really? Oh right. I'll try it out with my current PIN a bit later on then.
Thanks for that mate. I would of been waiting for ages.

surely no retailer keeps your 3 digit CVC on file?

i used to work for abbey/santander for a new card it was 3-5 working days and new pin 5-7 working days youll probably need to go to a santander machine to unlock your pin though before you can use your chip and pin or any other use

So I can't just go to any cash machine, put my card in and enter my old PIN? I'll have to go to a Santander machine?

Don't you always receive a new pin when your card is renewed, I am sure you do and therefore the old PIN will not work IMO.

As for all your accounts yes you will have to change them.

just to unlock your pin the first time you use it i cant remember if its only for using your chip and pin online buyng etc i cant remember though about withdrawals from another atm though im nearly 100% you can take money out at another cashpoint but everything else is locked until you unlock it at a santander atm

card wasnt renewed was replaced for a damaged card , when i worked for santander we only sent new pins on lost/stolen cards, replacements dont come with a new pin unless you request it

But I would have thought a replacement was treated the same as a renewed card as all the details on the card will be different, I am sure everytime my card is renewed it comes with a new PIN.

not as far as i remember , renewals are different than replacements as renewals are automatic and replacements are requested and when you call up your usually asked whats happened to the card and if it needs a new pin for security , if the cards broken but still in your possession there's no need to change the pin

i just got a replacement debit card as the chip on mine was damaged. the new one uses the old pin number so as soon as i used the new card the old one stopped working. OP you'll have to change all your payment details as your old card wont work anymore.

my Alliance and Leicester card expired recently and i was sent a replacement Santander card. I was given a new pin which i have since changed to the old one. I was surprised to find that I can no longer pay cash into my account at the post office with the new card.

Tip, don't leave your card details with loads of different retailers. One of them will be bound to have a security leak at some point in the future.

Usually your pin stays the same unless lost/stolen or you request that the new card has a new pin, Also you usually have to activate your card first before you use it, Some bank's let you activate online if you've got online banking. Otherwise you can activate by using the card for the first time in your banks atm.

I've got online banking with Alliance & Leicester. How do I go about activating my card via the internet then?

    Agreed + 1

I delete mine after each use.

you usually only have to activate credit cards, not debit cards.

Well Amazon never ask for it apart from the first time.

Amazon have never asked for my CVC though

Just added a new card and placed an order to test it and no CVC entry required

I've just joined Santander & have a new Debit Card. It was only by a coincidence that someone (not connected wiht Santander) mentioned "have you activated it otherwise you cannot use it". I have managed to somehow get it OK to use online but HAVE to use a Santander ATM to activate it for normal use. Why can't they have a phone line like other banks?

Because it is Santander, they don't operate like other reliable and reputable banks.
