Question about military number plates on private cars

Found 22nd Jul 2010
Hi.i am just double checking something. Someone told me that the car I am getting had military plates on it as it was on a base. Is this true? Do all private cars on army bases need military plates? Are these the same number as the car in civilian life and just presented differently or have I been told a fib? If not why would my little car ever have had military plates? Can anyone think of a downside buying a car that had such plates? Thanks

No it's not true whatsoever fact.

^^^^^This.

Although if it wasn't the case, I'd be vary wary of offering a lift to anyone wearing a rucksack.

So what would be the reason a little vw car would have had military plates then. Any ideas?

the vw dealer i am buying from. I think someone has got their facts wrong they must have. this car hasd military plates - that is what I have been told in the same numberplate as the normal civilian plates I am being sold it now.

Would it have been an army owned vehicle then to have had military plates? seems very odd for a little car

Load of cobblers...you would be unable to tell a private military vehicle from a normal civi one(unless it was a tank)

Apparently car taken out of UK when new to german base and has had military plates there or at the very least german plates (could n't quite understand this point from the dealer). It has now been returned to UK and sold on.

Yes it will have had a set of plates registering the car to the MOD with DVLA, PNC and MI services. When it becomes a civilian car it will receive a new registration.

Car is probably BFG'd,
