    Question about vehicle tax

Can someone tell me the reason the DVLA require a reminder letter or the V5C reference number to tax your vehicle? You can't just to be them your registration for some unknown reason.

It is just a way of making sure the cars keeper records are up to date with the DVLA. You can only tax with a reminder (so your details must be correct) or V5c (also proof you are the keeper).

It's to stop people driving round in cars that are still in other people's names. It makes you have to update owner details. It's a good thing as it makes sure the correct owner of a vehicle can be traced in the event of a crime.
