Question on upgrading Windows 10 to the Pro version.

I have Windows 10 on a PC and am interested in upgrading to the Pro version as it has some features I can use.
I have an unused Windows 8.1 Pro Serial Number/License so I’m wondering if I can use that serial number to do an in place upgrade without having to do a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro!
I say this because even though the free upgrade to 10 offer for the general public has expired seemingly you can still use a Windows 8.1 key to authorise a fresh installation of Windows 10. I am aware of the workaround for assistive technologies users and don’t want to take that route.

As it’s a new tablet and it has all the Dell drivers installed I’d rather not do a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro as that can be time consuming especially with the drivers.
So is it possible for me to do an in-place upgrade to Pro without doing a fresh install with my 8.1 key? I’m talking about what used to be called and maybe still is an Anytime Upgrade which just unlocks the extra features without needing a fresh install.

This maybe of help to … This maybe of help to you.....http://www.zdnet.com/article/going-pro-how-to-upgrade-windows-10-home-without-hassles/

Thanks, that is one of the few links that I read on the matter but as it's dated December 2015 I wasn't sure if it is still valid.
I will give it a go over the weekend as may as well try as not much to lose.

The regular method is straightforward but I was asking about using an 8.1 Pro key.

This still works, well did yesteday

1.1 Install all necessary drivers before the next step otherwise your hardware id may not match the Windows 10 hardware id.

    2. Generate a genuine ticket of your installation by:

2.1 Copy gatherosstate.exe from your downloaded Windows 10 10240/10586/14393 ISO to your installation which should be upgraded.

2.2 Run it on your activated and validated Windows. It'll output GenuineTicket.xml. Save this on a USB thumb drive or something.

2.3 Then do a fresh install with your suitable w10 ISO, skip to enter key at setup procedure.

2.4 Once it's installed make sure your internet connection is DISABLED/do not enable the internet connection! Reboot w10.
    2.5.0 Open CMD as admin
    2.5.1 net stop clipsvc
2.5.2 Copy GenuineTicket.xml to its proper place
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\ClipSVC\GenuineTicket\ of your w10 installation
    2.5.3 net start clipsvc
    2.5.4 Connect online.
    2.6. it should activate.

Thanks, but I can't be arsed to do a fresh install of 10 as it's not that important to me as I may be putting 8.1 on it anyway. I was thinking before I do that whether there's a quick way to upgrade to Pro in case I want to use 10 in the future and they have removed that loophole by then.

Have you tired this method using the 8.1 Key? Might well work as you can use an 8.1 key for a clean install of 10
