    Questioned by Community Support Officers

Two CSO's have just knocked at the front door asking if we had information about a serious incident that ocurred across the road to us. As we were not in we could not offer any information.

They then proceeded to ask us our names and dates of birth; we refused to give them the details. Is this normal procedure?

nosey gits tell em where to get off, all they are is wanna be coppers

    Yes it's normal.

Why wouldn't you give them?? Not like they are going to scam you. lol.

Probably marked you as suspicious now and the real police will be round at 4am kicking your door down. ;-)

If a serious incident occured across the road actual (not pretend) Police will probably want to speak to you.

The cso was probably getting your information on their behalf (I guess)

they prob just wanted to take you off the list save you being bothered again by different cso or police

why wouldnt you give your names they could easily find out your names if they really wanted to

Names I could understand, but dates of birth???

have you seen the Community Support Officers probably will try and scam you

@op just tell them to feck off and spit in their face they are used to it now:-D

you do not have to give them your personal information as you did not see anything so it would be irrelevent to them but the police are different as that is law and for your protection also

Strangely I got stopped by one of these guys yesterday asking me if I'd mind answering a few questions about some incidents that had occured a short while back. I just replied "sure, but unless it happened in the last 3 minutes since I stepped off the train, I might not be much help.

He just smiled and apologised for troubling me. It happens that way when you are a law abiding citizen without a chip on your shoulder. I wasn't troubled at all about it. Only wished I could have helped.

If they're gaining evidence to submit a prosecution this is standard procedure.

Did you just make this up?
It's not going to lead us down a merry side-track is it?

OP says that they weren't in and had no information re the incident. I don't think that the prosecutioin will be calling witnesses to testify to that.:geek:

    Oops - didn't read it properly.

There are a number of reasons
    1. Just because the OP says they havent seen anything, does not mean they actually havent and may need a follow up
2, Government rules stipulate that if the police have reason to speak to somone they should ask for all details.

All standard Police procedure, including PCSO's

Why refuse to give details? They can get them off the voting register anyway.

I gave my name but refused to give my birth date, when questioned he suggested that it was one of the questions on his bit of paper. I will choose who I give my details to, I wouldn't even have given it to coppers.

I have nothing to do with the incident, I saw nothing and therefore want nothing to do with the investigation. Therefore, I choose not to divulge my personal details. My choice isn't it ?

I don't understand the DOB part either,i had a Policeman at my door not so long ago about something regarding my neighbours,he asked for my name not my DOB:roll:

My Dad doesn't like the Police, god knows why,i always remember when i was young one knocking on the door about something and my Dad shouted through the window, what do you want,he never even opened the door lol

It's not like they can't find them anyway from your name/address, you might as well have given them your date of birth. Just sounds like you were being awkward is all.

Bet your dad wasn't called Gavin Lewishukd!!
Yes, I get it with ID'ing the witneses but they weren't witnesses. They had been out. They didn't see anything!

TBH I wouldn't even have thought twice about revealing my personal details. I do it all the time - on-line comps etc. etc. but it's not a bad idea to stop and think once in a while, about information, personal details, who is entitled to make you reveal what and so on.

Plus there's always the birthday party in the community angle.
