Quick help please - Re Breakdown and recovery

    Hi all.

My Mum in Law has just phoned me to tell me that she has broken down.

Unfortunately, she hasn't got any breakdown cover whatsoever so please can anyone tell me which of the servces would be best/cheapest for her to call (AA, RAC, etc) for recovery or if anyone has any other ideas LOL!

Thanks in advance for any advice x

you cant just join now lol

go to the emergency telephones NOW and they will arrange a breakdown truck (probably be about £150-200 to get towed to the nearest garage)

and no, you cannot tow a car on the motorway

oh no, thats not good. hope you get it sorted soon. i'd try phoning local garages in the area to get quotes. when it happened to us green flag wanted 95, but garage charged 60 and was a green flag truck!

for future sign up with autoaid, 37 for a couple

LOL, of course not otherwise nobody would ever be a member and would just wait until they broke down before joining.

I think the police will have a list of 'approved' duty breakdowns to move her. It's mandatory to be moved at your expense unless you have made contact already yourself.

    Thanks everyone who replied

Called a few companies quickly - AA said £145 (or £200 to take car home) including year membership, RAC said they can't do it and Greenflag have quoted £95 one off fee (no membership included).

Just thought I'd provide this info in the hope it helps someone else on the internets

Its not that you cant tow, its that it need's to be a fixed bar as opposed to a tow rope being used...

Erm, you most definitely can sign up on the spot like this if your car has broken down. You will just be charged more.

You really think The AA and RAC would turn away potenital customers?!

I was of course referring to joining up on normal rates (e.g. about £10 per year after quidco) oO

If you or someone you know has breakdown cover check if it covers driver or car as if it's driver aslong as you are there when pick up truck arrives it's all good!
