dont you do the same as xp and add it to banned sites

Do you have a router? - if so then it probably best to do it there.

Be the best method then whatever browser you use the site will remain blocked. What router do you have?

Thanks Sassie but I've tried that 'cos that's how I thought you did it but it doesn't work. I can still get on the site I want blocked.

If you go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ , you'll see a file called HOSTS. Open it with notepad, add

    127.0.0.1 www.hotukdeals.com

Save and exit. This should totally block access to the site for all apps on the PC, regardless of the browser used.

ooops sorry, dont know then

Get to live wires, put them on a metal chair with a buzzer. If anyone goes to website you dont like, press the buzzer

like JasonAJB said the best method is to use the Parental control on your router which would block the site entirely.

The other method is simply configuring your browser to block the site. In that case..

    Internet Explorer--->Internet options--->content--->content advisor (enable) settings--->approved sites

put the url there then hit Never. it should ask you to create a password.

Would need a bit more info like the model number, this way would block it on any computer using that router although if you only want it blocked on your laptop then dxx's method seems pretty good and straightforward

This worked- thanks guys for all your help.

    Wouldn't using a non-IE browser bypass that?

Edit: Just tested it myself & it can be accessed by using firefox

As has been said, there is nothing to stop someone downloading another browser like Firefox and they could access the site from there.

I think the option using "HOSTS" is the simplest and best idea.

    +1

If you don't want to do it on the router just edit your HOSTS file.

Try downloading Windows Live Family Safety Filter, its free as part of the live downloads. This has programming to stop any website in a list of your choosing, and password protect as well

That'd be trivial to fix for anyone who suspects it though.

Your best bet is to log into your router's control panel and see if there's any sort of site blocking option (it's called 'Blocked Sites' on my netgear DG834G).
