me and the wife

As an accountant I have used Quickbooks often over the years. Except for one client who told me he was using Quickbooks for his 4 company group. And when I arrived he was actually using Quicken with all 4 companies on the same ledger...

Depends how my clients are using it... sometimes you long for a huge stack of paper records...

1st year of using it? Yeah, it hard and every client wonders what their accountant has talked them into!

Stick at it, it does get easier. And once you have a year or two under your belt start asking your accountant why your fees haven't come down :whistling:

It can be worth asking your accountant for a bit of training. Worth a hour or two of his time (especially if he has some cheaper junior staff, they'll probably know more anyway).

Any specific questions feel free to pm me and I'll try and answer them.

I don't know to be honest, the wife and I just enter some invoices for someone on it. Don't know how to use it properly!!!

Its always worth sitting down with them and their reports before starting the job. Then you can just run down the P&L and BS and point out all the areas that can't possibly be right (you know PAYE accounts that show they owe the tax man £100,000, of course that might not always be wrong lol).

In fact I normally offer my clients a free 1 hour review after they've been using it for a couple of months. Often they ask for a mornings training after I've shown them where they are going wrong.

I normally offer training, but am a Sage man myself (although very bloated now). Don't use quickbooks enough to offer that, although I can use it myself.

Worst one I've ever come across was called 'Mind Your Own Business' .... not good

Oh yeah IRIS Bookkeeping a bit of a pig as well

Lol, on the MYOB, many years ago before they expanded over here I did their accounts, naturally they used MYOB. I recommended they tried using Sage :whistling:

IRIS is good if you use IRIS accounts prep as it loads straight in. Its not bad, just very different to Sage.

I always try and match a program to what a client needs to for. Quickbooks is good for the complete novice especially the smaller company. I tend to find the interface easier to understand (writing a cheque out to post a payment) also it comes with more out-of-the-box than Sage does.
