Quidco/Maths Help!

Found 8th Jul 2009
Hi

I'm trying to submit an enquiry on quidco and it is asking for the transaction amount excluding VAT & delivery. The pic below shows my order.

The total discount (£117.15) is 30% + 2.5% VAT reduction I think. So I presume the total including delivery is with the 15% VAT.

Can anybody work out for me the total for my order excluding VAT & delivery its really confusing me

Rep for help, thanks

Total transaction is the £277.31 you paid for the order. Take off the delivery charge (£3.95) and you're left with £273.36. 15% of that (£41.00) is for the VAT so the total Quidco want is £232.36 I think.

Ok cheers  +rep

I worked it out like this aswel but if you add 15% to £232.36 it comes to £267.21 which doesnt seem right. Is it still right though, im confusing myself here :-D

You are probably adding 15% of the £232.36 and not the original amount.

I think the amount you want to tell them is £237.71.

£237.71 x 15% = £35.65

£237.71 + £35.65 = £273.36 (£277.31 - £3.95)

+1.
15% of £232.36 is £34.854. If you add that to £232.36 you get the wrong amount.

How did you get the £237.71 amount originally? £35.65 is not 15% of £273.36

How did you get the £237.71 amount originally? it's not 15% of £237.36

I divided £273.36 by 115. Multiplied that figure by 15 and that gave me the amount of VAT paid. Then subtracted that figure from £273.36. Easy peasy.
The amount of VAT paid is not 15% of the final figure.

But if you divide £273.36 by 100 (to get 1%) you get £2.7336.
If you times that by 15 (to get 15%) you get £41.

£273.36 - £41 = £232.36, no?

No. The final figure, £273.36, is 115% of the original figure (the original figure being 100% and the VAT making up the other 15%). Try working it out using a smaller, easier number.

£273.36 / 1.15 = £237.70.

To double check

£237.70 x 1.15 = £273.36.

Shibi din is correct

I was waiting for the moment to realisation to hit!!! No websites needed to work it out though.
Think of it this way. The final figure already has the VAT in there, so you were trying to work out 15% of a figure that already had the 15% added to it.

Ironically I pointed that out to someone else in my post #7, lol
