Quite a few people, woken with a bang this morning!

Banned
A pair of iconic cooling towers which stood next to the M1 motorway and marked the start of the north of England for many drivers have been demolished.

The 250ft high Tinsley Towers were brought down in a controlled explosion after the motorway was closed to traffic.

The towers stood just 17m from the southbound carriageway of the motorway as it crosses the double-decker Tinsley Viaduct near Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

The destruction did not initially appear to go as planned, when roughly a third of the North Tower was left standing after they were both blown up at 3am.

But a spokeswoman for owner E.ON said that both towers had been fully demolished by 5.20am.

There seem to have been a lot of GPM's this summer. Which town/city? It's great to see these marches becoming more widespread. I see it as a sign that society is beginning to come to terms with homosexuality at long last, or at least being forced to confront it rather than vilify it. Although there is still quite a lot of ignorance and intolerance among some elements of society, it seems to be their views which are gradually becoming less tolerated. GPM's are a symbol of hope imo, and I can't wait to watch one someday! (Sorry OP, a bit off topic, but it seems that the actual topic has never been taken up anyway )

Aww, come on chesso, I didn't give away any real details. I'd need to get my partner's consent before I could share any of those But yes, I suppose if you ever get to know us in 'real life' and come to visit us on a Sunday morning, I might regret divulging this...

Our town isn't big enough, but Manchester is just an hour down the M6. Next year it is then - the kids will love it too I'm sure. On that note, I'm proud to say we are one of those households where gay relationships are discussed in the same way as straight ones. You want to see some of the reactions from others when our kids (10 and 6) discuss these kind of issues in matter-of-fact ways! We've even had looks of disgust thrown at us, as if we had somehow corrupted them!! :w00t:

kids tend to accept things better than adults, to them iit's not such a big deal. A parade is just a parade , lots of music, fancy dress and bright colours.

Yes, but in our case, we make a point of discussing the issues and reasons behind such marches etc. with the kids, so I guess they would be more aware than most of their peers about what you might call 'the politics' of such events. That doesn't stop them enjoying themselves of course, they'd jump and dance around like other kids! It just means that they can discuss events in a little more depth afterwards. It also helps them understand some of the different reactions they see around them, things I think probably just confuse a lot of other kids. They see things but are left to work out the reasons for themselves....
