Hiya, Does anyone know if these actually work as i've seen on other forum people have said they are just a gimmick, Anyone noticed any difference if you use them? I've install them but not sure if they do work.

Plus if anyone has any other ways to save energy please suggest them

I've increase our loft insulation and fitted raditor reflectors. and looking to save more money.

Thanks all rep may be given

I fitted them when I fitted my central heating, but doubt if they work.

What type of a house do you have?

are they the thing that sit behind the rad or the things that sit on top and blow air around the room when rad is on

My ones are fixed to the wall behind the rad. I had to paint mine cream as you can see through my rads. This might be the reason they don't work, or they are just a waste of money.

The ones that sit on top sound like a "deflector", not "reflector".

I don't think your suppose to paint them lol they need to be silver i think

oh right, thanks, been thinking about putting them behind the rads that are sat on external walls, but probably a waste of money i suppose cooking foil may do the same job - lol

I just used foil and works pretty good. Make sure you have draught excluders on all doors in the house as well as the attic hatch

oh right, did you attach it to some cardboard or something? got draft excluders, got someone coming tomorrow to check the cavity n my walls cause something is making this house extremely hard to heat

Ours was a really cold house and is also semi detatched. It made a huge difference having cavity wall insulation and also I think the pebble-dash helped too.

i have looked at them, but i really do think you must lose most of the heat having cabinets

Yes that could be why. Apparently if they use the cheap stuff then it crumbles to dust. I think I saw something on one of those rogue trader programs about it. Can't you get a grant for it or is that only for the elderly and people on benefits?

well to be honest im hoping it is duff cause at least then we will know why it is so bad here, yes you can get grants if elderly or on low income

P.s sorry david didnt mean to take over your thread

Good loft insulation as heat rises (so escapes through the roof) keep your heating and water on a lower temperature but constant, it will cost more to heat a full cold tank of water than to reheat a tank of warm. Make sure all your doors and windows are flush so you don't get any draughts etc oops you've done your loft ...sorry

Have you tried closing the windows and doors?
Only joking - how many walls are exposed to the elements - this is a major factor.

Was gonna say.... I live in a terraced house and have got neighbours either side.
I'm sure they must have their heating cranked right up as we hardly have ours on at all!

Do you have large front and back windows ?
This might be the problem.

Got reflectors on mine, it's not like you'll notice less heat escaping out the walls though is it ? I'm getting a new loft hatch eventually maybe one like this fire rated too.
