Rant about freecycle. some people are so cheeky and rude

offered 5 new packs of laminate flooring yesterday with that fair offer policy thing and you would never believe some of the emails ive had, i said in the post that they would only be giving to someone who really needs them or a charity and that if you had had something off me in the past not to ask again cos thats not fair on other members ( this was directed at one person who i gave something to that morning and was in the hock shop by lunchtime)
yes that scumbag did ask for them!
then another woman who i gave lots of toys too arrived in a 2 year old car dressed up like she was the flipping queen!

    little glimpse into the emails.
ive finished building my extension and brand new kitchen so i will pick them up tomorrow ok?
ive just finished re-decorating all the house and your flooring would look amazing can i have it?
i will take it email me you address!
just moved to the area so i'll take the lot and what ever else you have for free! that one pee'd me off
    i'll have the lot thanks.
    will you deliver?
most were not polite other were down right rude

so im never offering stuff on there again, going to give it all to the charity shop or take it to the tip

    rant over..lol

totally agree with you i have had a few like that and it does put you off offering anything, hope you feel a bit better now nothing better than a good rant

Do you have a 'Too Good to Waste' scheme in your area? They give the stuff to charitable causes. Ive given TV's. sofa's etc to them.

You must do - you're in RCT like me! lol

would look lovely in my 2nd home......just had it refurbished as it was looking a bit dated (was after all built over 2 years ago) soooooo where is it you deliver to again?

    WHAT IS FREECYCLE(TM) ABOUT?

First, what Freecycle is NOT about:

Freecycle is NOT about giving only to the poor.

It is NOT about getting as much free stuff as we can.
It is NOT about getting things to earn money on the side.
It is NOT about getting rid of junk that would be better off in the landfill.
It is NOT about posting a "wish list" for expensive items and expecting a fairy godmother to fulfill it for us.
It is NOT a community bulletin board for finding rentals, dentists, mechanics, or advertising our businesses and services or special events.

    What Freecycle IS about:

Freecycle IS about keeping things out of the landfill.
It IS about giving away something that has no use in our life anymore to someone who could extend its usefulness a little longer.
It IS about giving gifts to people while clearing out our own clutter.
It IS about creating, building, and sustaining an environmentally aware community.

Offering Items We No Longer Need to Those Who Need Them:

When we post an OFFER, we are offering to give someone a gift. It is up to us to give this gift to whomever we feel would be the best recipient. We are not obligated to give our gift to someone who is rich, poor, single, married, has no kids, has 1 kid, has 15 kids, has a car, doesn't have a car, or has a purple octopus named George living in their backyard. We can choose the most polite, the rudest, the funniest, or the shortest response to receive our gift. We can put their names in a hat and do a draw, or we can wave our magic fingers over our screens and pick one that way. We can choose the first, 3rd, or 53rd respondent. We can wait 24 hours and then decide. It is up to us.

Letting Other People Know What We Need:

When we post a WANTED message, or respond to an offer, we are requesting a gift. The odds are that no one on this list will be able to give us what we are asking for. But sometimes somebody will see a WANTED for a bowling ball and go "AHA! I have one in my closet!" But, you know what? Just because we are rich, poor, single, married, have no kids, have 1 kid, have 15 kids, have a car, don't have a car, or have a purple octopus named George living in our backyard, does not mean we are more worthy of receiving a gift from a fellow Freecycle member than the average person living down the street.

Sending emails that don't say "please" or "thank you" are a way to not receive an item. Sending emails with nasty comments in them are one way to find us in a bit of trouble.

    HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN FREECYCLE

When you want to find a new home for something -- whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door -- you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of your Freecycle group.

Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member's offer, and you just might get it. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure. You can even post a Wanted message to the group because somebody might have just the exact thing you really need stored away in a closet.

One main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

YOU ARE BUILDING A COMMUNITY BY PARTICIPATING

We are part of a community. In every community, there are people who don't get along. And in most communities, when two people don't get along, they just avoid each other. To do that on Freecycle, all you have to do is set up a filter to send any email from someone you don't want to hear from straight into your trash bin. If you need help with that, let the moderators know and they can help you.

So, just remember: If you're offering a gift, it's up to you to decide who gets it.

And if you're requesting a gift...well, be patient. Your turn will come eventually, but if you're not careful your name could end up on a 'will not give to' list. Try starting off by making an OFFER to the list, just to see how the process works. Look in your closet or in that box you haven't unpacked since you moved in two years ago. Prime stuff for Freecycle!

Above all - keep on keeping "stuff" out of the landfill! If you have any comments or questions, please send them to [email protected].

See I don't really understand that way of looking at it. You're giving away JUNK that you no longer want/need rather than having the hassle of taking it to your local CA.

You heard about the mean freecycle prank/crime?

A person lists something the person they are "pranking" has (such as their car). Lists it on freecycle and lots of people go to there house and demand the item.

Me too, i don't use it, but if i was getting rid of something i wouldn't be fussed about who took it, they're taking something i don't want, thereby doing me a favour.

Not heard of that but must admit I was tempted the other day to reserve some expensive HDTV's at argos and offer the reservation codes on here as Go Go Hamsters :oops::whistling:

Can you imagine the recipients reaction when they handed over the code at the desk

    vinylandtrinkets;7032452

but i dont give away junk. 5 packs of laminate are not junk just not … but i dont give away junk. 5 packs of laminate are not junk just not needed anymore. thats what i thought freecycle was about, recycling the things you no longer need or want. if it was rubbish i wouldnt offer it , and to be honest i dont think ive seen anyone offer junk, most of the things can be reused

Surely it doesn't matter who gets it then?

If you've got no use for it, it's 'junk'. It may be good junk, but still junk

Imagine how much nastier people would be turning up looking for something and being told no.

    vinylandtrinkets;7032531

lol one mans junk is another man treasure:-D

Exactly:thumbsup: I work at the local CA sometimes and some of the stuff people bring in is just criminal. One weekend a pair of blokes brought in a complete house load of furniture etc. Nothing wrong with it but it all went into the crusher:roll: The thing is there's a local scheme that recycles furniture to needy people so they could have just dropped it off to them. Then you get people coming in with stuff that 'there's nothing wrong with but we just don't want anymore, can we leave it somewhere so somebody can take it', which we have to tell them that due to council policy nothing left on the site is to be removed and if they leave it anywhere but the crusher they'll be reported for fly tipping:lol: I do tell them to FC it but they just act as if it's too much hassle.
