Raspberry Pi Help

Hi all, my son has asked for a raspberry pi for xmas. He'd like to be able to set it up to play some retro games and learn a bit of programming along the way.

I'm a bit clueless tbh, never really dabbled in programming, and at 11 years old he's also a bit of a novice (he's learning python at school but it's early days).

So, my question is... what else would you recommend picking up with the pi, and also, any links to any easy to follow tutorials to help him get it set up? Whilst I'd love to get involved in setting it up i think it would be far more beneficial to him to do it himself.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, appreciate the input. Looks like the pi3 maybe the better option then.

Get both, the magazine will be useful anyway so might as well get the free Pi Zero, but I'd agree with getting a full size one as well. I have a Pi 2 which tbh I only use occasionally for time lapses. The camera is quite good as well.

Raspberry Pie? 200 degrees for 45 mins...

Retropie is probably the ultimate retrogaming build.

If you have extra SD cards (did the more recent models go MicroSD, I know my model B takes SD), then you can have several different "personalities" for your PI, just shut down, load a different card, and away you go.
