We've got an open coal fire. 'Soot' doesn't leave the chimney and fall into next doors garden.

Tell her to stop being lazy by phoning and come and see you face to face next time.

And get that tattoo covered up!

I live in blackpool and know a few families that have open coal fires here, there isnt any rule against it. Maybe your chimney needs cleaning or looking at, i dont know much about open fires, but not sure there will be much the council can do tbh

as above though, ask her why she couldn't just walk the few steps to speak to u in person, surely ur not that intimidating

What a **** unless he was breaking any laws relating to local bylaws or being anti-social then theres nothing can be done, however if the case is that the neighbour is contravening some law/bylaw etc then surely legal (as in law abiding) action should be taken. No offence to your dad but I dont go looking for trouble, however if someone did that to me then they have crossed a line which would result in retalliation.

There isnt a lot can be done other than get the chimney swept (ideally twice a year), make sure you dont burn incorrect fuels for the fire etc.

If black specks are falling this is more likely to be due to what is being burnt, burning the correct fuel on ours gives no visible smoke or discharge other than when wood is used just to get it going, which is probably once a fortnight during winter as the fire is kept going more or less permanently.

have u had your chimney swept recently. maybe they havnt complained before because it hasnt been a problem, if the chimney hasnt been cleaned for a while then it mite just be that.

yep we do it our selfs hav all the brushes and stuff

Sorry, totally off topic but you actually changed your pic due to someone on here telling you to get it covered up ?

no changin all pics on here face book etc...
dont know y they told me to cover it tho

Re the coal fire...... Unless there are any relevant laws or by-laws in your area there may be little your neighbour can do. However if you think it is possible that she has a point maybe you could reach a point of compromise. Agree a time that she will be able to put out washing safe from the threat of coal flecks...... or something similar.
Even if the law is on your side, it is often useful to get along with the neighbours.

Ah i see. Well cant really do much if she has OCD.

Save up a big bag of soot and when she goes out one day go round and mark out 'MOVE HOUSE' on her lawn with it. Never know, the old bag may get the hint.

Also next time you see her tell her you have to use coal as its the only way you can get rid of the bodies mwahahahah :-)
