A while back I asked on here as someone was using my broadband, locked the network using wpa and a password tht is both letters and numbers,I know the network is locked properly as a few days ago my son couldnt get on his psp til he added the password etc
Today I find the same person "Jack" is using my broadband,I can see the mac address in the routers settings, does this mean this person has hacked my password and what can I do now?

I believe you can block MAC codes via the router settings pages

Change passwords, although not sure how he hacked your password though as WPA is normally very secure!

Theres apage that brings up all the belkin settings and if you look under DHCP it shows a list of all those connected.
I only learnt that via the helpful peeps here
ot sure if its the same for other router brands?

A friend thought this was happening to her as in her wireless settings she could see names she didnt know it was actually just their signal she could see from their router, depending on time/location in house I can see between 5 and 10 or so signals!

This "JACK" is showing in the DHCP list

Find out which neighbour of yours is called Jack and have a word. Install a pcaket sniffer and see what hes up to, unless hes already sniffing traffic on the network and has captured your other usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, etc..

dont talk to any of my neighbours,is there a free to download packet sniffer?

Cain is free however not sure if youll be able to figure it out with no experiance, still have a go, its not that hard, or you could find a tutorial, theres plenty online.

Do an ARP poison and it will record the usernames and passwords hes using through your network to connect to other services.

He may only be using your network to connect to the internet, however if hes gone through so much trouble cracking your WPA key he will probably have other intentions too, like stealing your personal information. Knock on your neighbours doors and ask if Jack is in, and when some one says yes, have a word. He may be using an alias though.

Heres a tutorial on using Cains packet sniffer:

"Jack", is breaking the law.

The Communications Act 2003 says a "person who (a) dishonestly obtains an electronic communications service, and (b) does so with intent to avoid payment of a charge applicable to the provision of that service, is guilty of an offence".

thankyou, just managed to find the mac address filter and have denied that mac address acess, this removed Jack from the dhcp list but theyre back on now and the mac address is different but still shows as Jack!

thats not good, we get a message if someone is trying to hack ours, and the person gets a warning, basicly telling them to go away or there be in trouble, i thought that was standered??

see something like this?

He may be spoofing his MAC address, he may change it to something else and connect again. Even if hes using an alias if you knock on his door asking for Jack, it may be enough to put him off. He is also breaking the Computer Missuse Act 1986

just want "Jack" to booger off and pay for his own broadband now,I'm sick of this, cant think of who it could be,most of em are old ppl around here

It's a little odd that they've managed to get into a WPA encrypted network... may be time to go round getting all the MAC addresses of the equipment in the house and putting them on the allow list and banning everything else

On my netgear, there's a function to not broadcast the router's ID and to only trust mac addresses that i've allowed - don't know if your router would have something similar?

it's illegal to use it without your consent isn't it?
can you not contact police if you know who it is

Do these 3 steps and highly unlikely anyone could get into your network.

Step 1: Go to the router set up page and change your login name and password.

Step 2: Change your WPA password.

Step 3: Set it so you only allow certain MAC address that can connect to your network.

The police wouldnt do anything.

Can you check and make sure that Remote Administration isn't enabled on the router?

Mardyass thought I check but are you sure it's not your son playing on his PSP?

I'm pretty sure Belkin routers list all previous connections which are not necessarily active any more, so "Jack" probably isn't active on your network any more, just has been in the past perhaps?

nope his psp is in front of me (has a diff host name too) and i can account for all others in the list which are my wii, laptop and downstairs pc

Any cars parked outside with some one sat in it with a laptop? lol

You say the psp is on it... i thought the psp could only connect to WEP? Not WPA?

when i change the password and refresh the page he has gone, then 5 mins later he is back !
my son was playing his psp online earlier and it showed him playing as soon as he got off his psp he vanished from the list so i take it is right and lists those using the network at anyone time
