RECALL - HP Laptop battery issues

HP are recalling laptop batteries due to overheating issues.

HP say "Because these batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, it is extremely important for customers to check whether their batteries are affected, and to cease use of affected batteries immediately. Customers may continue to use their notebook computer without the battery installed, by connecting the notebook to external power.

****Which Models are affected/****

Includes "HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion Notebook Computers sold worldwide from March 2013 through August 2015"

Not all models are effected, although it's definitely worth looking if you own one one the following models (or if you're concerned)

HP Compaq: CQ45 (B), CQ58 (B)
HP ENVY: dv6 (G)
HP: 240, 245, 246, 250 G1, 255 G2, 450, 455, 650, 655, 1000 (B), 2000 (B)
HP Pavilion: 14 (S), 15 (S), 17 (S), g4 (S), g6 (S), g7 (S)
HP ProBook: 4440s, 4441s, 4445s, 4446s, 4540s, 4545s 440 G0, 440 G1, 445 G1, 450 G0, 450 G1, 455 G1, 470 G0, 470 G1, 470 G2, 4440s, 4441s, 4445s, 4446s, 4540s, 4545s

****How to check****

HP have a validation tool on their site, that enables you to download and perform a check to see if you're machine is affected. There is also a way to check them manually if you prefer. You just need the Laptop serial number and battery barcode number - SEE LINK IN COMMENT #1

Anyone else having problems using the Utilities tool? I download it after downloading the framework and it comes up with 'Does not meet minimum requirements'?

just do it manually - worked for me.

​thanks for this mate - I'm a systems admin by trade, found half a dozen affected batteries in the business by lunchtime with even more coming out of the woodwork.
