recommendation for a proper tent + basic equipment

Looking for a medium sized Family tent. It will be used in Scotland. Ideally something easy to put up.
Also what did you buy for sleeping? Are those self inflatable mats any good?

I have been using the self inflating mats for quite a while now, they're really good for sleeping on, if you look at a few, go for the 5mm thick though rather than the 3mm thick, the extra 2mm is worth it! Also, make sure you keep the compression straps for putting them away again after use.

Thanks, I was wondering how basic you can sleep without having back pain in the morning? I've seen people using airbeds. Not sure if its more comfortable?

Do you always book ahead ?

air beds are just a barrier if you can take lots of blankets and buy a carpet for tent basicly a thick ground sheet. check gumtree lots of people selling used one time only stuff. i recommend a bucket bbq as well can then use it as firepit at night. good thick sleeping bags are a must preferably 4 season as scotland can get cold. also b prepared for rain and practice putting things up before you leave saves on misery later on...

My biggest tip would be to borrow a good tent from some well seasoned campers if you know any? I have seen some sad sights on campsites of families being put off by flimsy tents, never to venture into camping again. Trouble is people buy cheap because they think they may not like it, when the actual tent is the biggest issue.

Have fun, also remember pitch the tent and then open the bottle!
