    Recommended Holiday Destinations?

I am trying to find somewhere to go on holiday next year but I just can't think of nice destination.

It will just be me and my boyfriend and we want to go somewhere hot with lovely sandy beaches, clear seas and generally just a relaxing environment (we don't want to be near lots of nightclubs but we don't want to be stuck somewhere remote!)

Our budget will probably be around £500 - £600 each and we are looking at going away for a week so we don't want to travel long distance.

Can anyone recommend a nice holiday destination?

    Thanks

    Ayia Napa........

Isn't Ayia Napa full of nightclubs?

Sardinia, Italy - You can fly into the north of the Island to Alghero with Ryanair or fly to the South of the Island to Cagliari with Easyjet. So you may find some cheapish flights.
We've been there on holiday with the kids and it's great. Lovely climate and great beaches for relaxing and swimming!

Edit - those flights are from London but I know they do depart from other UK airports

laganas zante, we stayed in a hotel called the pallas hotel and its really nice, set back from all the night life but close enought if you want to go, plenty of places to eat near by and a gorgeous indian, the beach isnt far away and its a nice beach

    No lol

There are some beach front family hotels etc

OOH...Thailand Don't book a package, do it yourself...works out at about half cost of package. Just back from 3 weeks there. pm me if you want any more details. sun..sea...bliss...you don't need to go near any sleeze...just heaven

Cala N Bosch Menorca. A few bars no real night clubs there but there are some in Citadella just up the road. Lovely beaches and atmosphere. Went there for honeymoon this year and will go back.

I went to Luxor in Egypt last year with my bf. It is very remote, it's in the middle of the desert, but the hotels have everything you need and there's a few restaurants, bars and shops nearby. The locals aren't used to tourists so you get a lot of hassle but as long as you're firm with them they get the hint!! We stayed in the Steigenberger Hotel which is 5* and right on the nile. They do various trips to different places, Cairo, Nile cruises etc... We did the Valley of the Kings which was great, but it gets VERY hot (think 65C plus) inside the tombs. We went at the end of June for 2 weeks and it was £535 half board (but that was a very good deal I think). It didn't drop below 42C every day so if you want hot, go there!

Cuba. Me and missus got 2 weeks with Thomas Cook in June for £1400 for both of us. It was also all inclusive so saved us a lot of spending money. Meant we could spend that little bit more on the initial outlay.

    Barry Island!!!

I loved Luxor but for just chilling i would recommend Dahab on the Sinai coast (a little further up than Sharm el-Sheikh and a lot quiter) It has been a few years since i was last there but it was beautiful and cheap. I stayed in a hostel for 50p a night but that was at the very bottom end. It is dead handy foe Eilat in Israel and has some famous dive spots.

Egypt can be done very cheaply especially if you embrace the culture of baksheesh and don't book through tour operators.

I spent just over a month in Egypt and spent less than £300 and still managed to visit everywhere including Abu Simbel and i even went on a three night Nile cruise for $10 US.

All of the places mentioned above are Chav Havens trust me.

I would go to Paphos if i was you. Stunning

What utter tosh. What makes you the bastion of taste? Oh i forgot Chavs visited St Catherine's Monastery or treked through the Sinai. And Sardinia is lovely. The old town of Ayia Napa is sedate

Paphos is beautiful but hardly off the beaten track.

As your not looking to go long haul I would say Minorca is probably a good choice, Cala N Bosch is a nice resort as Martinhb says.

Majorca is also lovely if you pick the right resort and go a bit off the beaten track.

Saying that we are looking to try Sardinia ourselves next year, so maybe Kizah has come up with a gem.

Its all about what you want from your hols and years ago when I worked in a travel agency the amount of peeps that came in and went all over Europe, then to the Caribbean and onto America and back again without actually leaving the shop was amazing.

What one person classes as hot is not necessarily the same as another, also when the couple down the road tell you they have been to wherever and it was amazing, you need to dig a bit more if your interested because they might happen to be swingers and believe you me, you might find an identical holiday to theirs amazing but not in the same way lol :whistling:

Once I had a bit of experience I always advised peeps to decide on several points

What do you consider is your maximum flying time to a destination ?

How hot do you want it ?

    What board basis ?

    Hotel or Apartment ?

Will you be wanting transfers or are you going to hire a car ?

Will it bother you if you are having to pay a lot for coffees, meals out etc ?

Once you have decided on these factors, your choice narrows down quite a lot and it becomes a bit easier to find that 'perfect holiday'.

Wherever you decide, have a fab time

Go to Alykes in Zakynthos (Zante) just exactly as you describe what you want and well within your budget
if you are interested drop me a PM and I'll send you a few links as I know a few places there as we go there regularly - even got married there

Whooooaaa Laganas is one big nightclub - dead during the day - comes to life in the evening till 6am

It depends what you want to do in Cyprus.

Beach lovers should steer towards the eastern end of the island, Fig Tree Bay in Protaras and Macronissos Beach in Ayia Napa are very good. Yes you've got Coral Bay on the other side but it's not as good as the other two IMO.

Clubbing etc. Ayia Napa is the immediate choice, although there is bar street in Paphos. A lot of people say Ayia Napa gets run over with clubbers, it doesn't. The harbour is nice.

Larnaca has a more 'old town' feel to it, most of the hotels are out along the Dhekalia road going East of Larnaca. There's another large beach on the other side of the town, Mackenzie Beach, literally next to the end of Larnaca Airport's runway. Spent a lot of time there over the past few years.

Pernera is the resort slightly to the north of Protaras, less bustle than its bigger brother and has some nice hotels. There's now a proper lit path between the two. Protaras itself is a family style resort, there's one long main road through the centre of it where many hotels lie. Magic Dancing Waters is worth a visit, Ayios Elias church is just a bit up the road and has good views down over the resort.

Never stayed in Limassol, visited for a day and had a more industrial feel to it although I'm sure it's very nice.

History wise Paphos is very good, harbour, tombs of the kings etc. and you've got places like Kourion near Limassol, and then the Baths of Aphrodite up near Polis.

I wouldn't consider Paphos to be 'chavvy' at all. You're going to get the bucket and spade brigade wherever you go, and in at least 4 years of staying there I haven't ever encountered unruly or what would be considered as chav like behaviour.

I don't find it tacky, and having been back this year the new sea front upgrade down by the harbour has worked very well and looks very nice. OK so removing the actual sea wall might come back to bite them should a very bad storm hit the island but we'll see.

The island will always be a bit 'British' given our past influences and control over it.

How can you say Paphos is stunning? Its just a commercial town with a couple of beaches and has a really bad traffic congestion problem now. Its far from stunning! Even Coral Bay is getting overwhelmed with residential buildings. Cyprus isnt what it used to be and is VERY expensive to eat out etc. Latchi is still pretty unspolit and would be my place of choice in cyprus but even that is seeing big residential sites emerging.

I'd choose Crete over Cyprus every time now. The towns west of Chania are quiet with beautiful beaches (e.g Kato Stalos). A must see is Kournas Lake.

What do you consider is your maximum flying time to a destination ? - Preferably under seven hours

How hot do you want it ? - High 20's to low 30's (We would be going in September)

What board basis ? - Any is fine

Hotel or Apartment ? - Hotel

Will you be wanting transfers or are you going to hire a car ? - Transfers

Will it bother you if you are having to pay a lot for coffees, meals out etc ? - So long as there are nice restaurants about then we wouldn't be bothered

I went to Cyprus when I was younger. I had family who lived in Limassol (it's not that nice!) and during the two weeks I was there we went to Paphos, Ayia Napa, Larnaca and to the Troodos Mountains. Whilst as far as I can remember (this was about ten years ago) Cyprus was nice, I would rather try somewhere new!

Like a lot of places it depends on where you look. Food prices will be more expensive if you stick to the main tourist areas. Out on the Coral Bay road we had a 3 course set menu for €9.95 which was good value for the portions and levels of service.

The pedestrianisation of the harbour front at night does cause chaos though in the centre, I'll agree with that.

You could have a look at the Cape Verde islands, about a 5 hour flight and a relatively new holiday destination in comparison to most others.

The Puding Suite in Antalya Turkey is a really pretty and sumptious boutique hotel and within your price range and flight times. The weather is expected to be what you are looking for and it certainly looks relaxing. All reviews are good and the hotel comes in around the £590 mark including breakfast for the two of you with easytobook in September 2010. The hotel also operates an airport shuttle service.

Just had a quick peek at flights and they are doable for around £350 for you both using Thomas Cook. You could probably find them cheaper but I only had a quick look. Only downside I can see is its not actually on the beach, its very close to a pretty harbour, I think the beach is about 3km.

Having said that its OK if you fancy Turkey. Here's a couple of links.

tripadvisor is worth looking at for the reviews.
