Recorded Mail

Okay to tell you the truth im starting to get really annoyed with sending stuff via recorded mail. I mean its probably better to just send it with a first class stamp. I sent something off (A letter) on Monday. Now ive got the tracking number and everything. But when i enter it on the site it says Come back later etc etc. Normally i wouldnt mind as it could be something i could replace but this letter was really important to me and kinda irreplacable. I know i should have used special delivery but that is £4.30!!! lol.

So what im asking is how do i know it has definetly reached there? I cant really contact the person i sent it to. Ive used recorded mail before but im not sure what message comes up when you type in the del code after it has been delivered etc.

Any help? And sorry for the life story lol

If it's not showing on the site then it's not been delivered yet.

When it's been delivered it gives you the signature and time etc.

Is there any way of finding out if it has tried to be delivered but no one was at home? Like if i call customer services or something?

Yes...........if they've tried then they'll tell you where it is. If they don't know then it's still in the system somewhere.

Just quote the ref no.

They're on strike at the mo

Not strictly true. I used to send a reasonably high amount of packages via RM Recorded and found that around 5-10% would not get logged into the system, even though they had been delivered. The standard "please check back later message" would show online.
Thats why I dont bother with recorded as much now, as it is as much a lottery as with normal post.
If its a item you've sold, etc wait to see if the buyer enquires where the item is before doing anything.

Its not an item ive sold its like a letter a really important one. Ill maybe give it till friday and then call them up. Thats what i was worried about that maybe it doesnt get checked online in the system but just gets delivered anyway if you know what i mean.

And they arent still on strike are they? lol

All day tomorrow. :-(

They on strike?

Yep 2moro - for future reference if it is a important letter always use special delivery because it is still (fingers crossed) very reliable, but also I think they cover you for some consequential loss if they lose the item (which is very unlikely)

If the Postie does not have a EPoD thingy they have to manually input the delivery info when they get back. Some do it everyday but some do it weekly. You can phone up the Royal Mail and ask for a copy of the signature, that will cost you £2.00. 08457 740740

For consequential loss I believe you need to purchase 'enhanced insurance'.

I've sent quite a few things recently via recorded mail.
Your best bet to check if it has been delivered or not is to ring 08459272100. Personally I've found the website to be crap, so for anything important,if the tracking number gives no result on the website, I just ring the number, give them the tracking number and they can tell you if its been delivered and also email a copy of the signature.

Edit - a copy of the signature doesn't cost anything if the tracking number doesn't give any result on the website!

We'll pay you compensation for the value of your item up to 100 times the price of a basic weight first class stamp.

Yes I know.
I was on about Special Delivery and Consequential Loss:p

You CANNOT buy insurance for First or Second Class Post, using Recorded does not change this.
