Refreezing fish?

Just got home and realised my Freezer has been defrosting! Anyone know if I can refreeze the fish thats in my freezer? It's only the average Cod/Haddoxk fillets that you buy in Tesco! The fish was still cold and semi frozen when i discovered it!

some fish comes instore frozen, then 'defrosted' if you can freeze it again at home surely a 3rd time wont hurt

No you can't refreeze anything once defrosted but know a few supermarkets that do!! Just leave them in the fridge and eat them over the next couple of days or cook it then freeze it again.

You can however, cook off and freeze.

Semi-frozen ... yes stick it back in the freezer.

let them totally defrost......................then let them back in the sea :D, ...only joking i would either cook them and eat straight away or cook them leave to cool,cover ,refrigerate and then heat thorougly tomorrow

so much misinformation on here it is untrue!

there is no health risk with re-freezing any thawed food whatsover. The only problem is with flavor and texture.

Personally, I would make a big fish pie or similar and eat what you can and then freeze that.

please dont refreeze, if you have kids, you and the kids will have food … please dont refreeze, if you have kids, you and the kids will have food poisoning! I know, Ive done it! too risky!You can however, cook off and freeze.


utter nonsense! Unless you left it at room temperature for hours. The re-freezing part would have played no part in your food poisoning.

Refreezing

Once food is thawed in the refrigerator, it is safe to refreeze it without cooking, although there may be a loss of quality due to the moisture lost through defrosting. After cooking raw foods that were previously frozen, it is safe to freeze the cooked foods. And if previously cooked foods are thawed in the refrigerator, you may refreeze the unused portion.
