Being a girlie, I posted in the wrong thread to begin with, naturally...

Anyone know if it's legal to post supposed 'hacks' for reprogramming your dvd player form region 2 to region-free?

Ta.

Hmmm. Seems to be something of a grey area. Anyone wanting to debate this can send private message.

Not a grey area. They are made hackable. Ie, with the remote control! If they didn't want it done, they'd have made it much harder!!!!

Fair point! lol that's zactly what i used, along with 8, 1, 3, 2, 8....

I don't think it's illegal to region hack a DVD player, it would probably void the warranty I guess, but that is up to the user.

I think a DVD hack thread is a good idea!

Stayin on this subject, anyone have a hack for a Sony DVP-NS330?
Thanks

Region hacking I can't remember if it's illegal or not, but it's illegal for a company to sell a DVD unit (player, recorder etc. etc.) in the European market that can play non-region 2 or 0 DVD's out of the box, hence why there are so many region hacks available.

Will let you know if im successful!

I am a little confused though. I knew that law was in place... But, you see so many DVD players advertised on Amazon, and all over the place that are region free. I know they are internet based, and their products could be anywhere.. How ever, they must comply with EU standards if they sell here?

Tesco stores even had Region Free DVD players.. How ever, I don;t think they were ever advertised as Region Free. Rather, the consumer had to find that out him or herself...?!
