Remember Remember the 5th of November

Does anybody celebrate Guy Fawkes night these days?

    You know what I mean.

Kids making a Guy and asking 'Penny for the Guy'

All the local kids collecting wood to build a huge bonfire with the Guy on top.

Firework displays with everybody bringing their fireworks to the big bonfire

Or do you have a smaller fireworks party in your own garden?

Or do you go to one of the big organised displays?

Are fireworks worth the money that gets spent on them especially now when times are hard?

Should we bother this year if the Fire Service might not be around for safety?

    Yes

I went to one at my dads local last year, 8 months pregnant, and had my hair set on fire by a rogue firwork. great fun! i really missed it when i lived abroad.

Should we be able to buy fireworks all the year round - for birthdays etc?

For instance in Italy they set them off at New Year (from about quarter to midnight actually!)

i think only having them around bonfire/new year time is good. would take some of the glamour of them away if we saw them every other week for someones birthday.

I think so, i love fireworks, in luxembourg they have a massive firworks display on The Dukes birthday it was great

Hoping to do our first firework display this year.
Going to invite people round and get them to bring their own fireworks!

Got a firepit, so will have that going and marshmallows to cook on it too!

When I was little, I used to do Penny for the guy. Sat outside the corner shop and made quite a few bob!

^^ are you 2 serious we probably get more new years eve than bonfire night here.

IMO shop fireworks are so rubbish. We pay to go a watch a professional display or the council park one.

Jacket potatoes in the embers or sausages/marshmallows in the bonfire?

we still celebrate it, we go to a public display and then come home and have a few fireworks/sparklers of our own and put jacket spuds and roast chestnuts on the fire pit !.....you dont see many bonfires now , not even at organised displays, someone said its because it wrecks the grass and also safety as the winds have blown a few out of control in the past !...........ooh toffee apples also

5th november is oldest daughters birthday too-we go to a professional display. We are surrounded by fields with horses/cows/sheep so would upset the farmer too much if we started letting off our own fireworks.

im not a big fan of fireworks, to many idiots get hold of them. id rather go to a family do, i went to a organised one at the local park and there were drunken teenagers setting fireworks off willy nilly. i also think they should stop sellling them in supermarkets to stop them getting into the wrong hands.

One of our local council bonfires ones has been stopped due to H&S, just had the firework display and no fire.

yeh you also have to think of animals , at least you can prepare them for bonfire night/new years eve, my mil has to get a sedative for her two dogs for these two occassions !

TBH I think they should be banned selling them to the general public full stop. Public displays fair enough but now so many stupid people about that selling them explosives just seems mental!

Remember remember the 5th of November, well I can't even remember the majority of last years!

Every year on Italian TV they talk about the illegal fireworks imported from China

They are round, about the size of grapefruits and covered with brown paper - just like a bomb in a Pink Panther cartoon!

These are the ones that everyone asks for in the shops!! X)

I like blowing pumpkins up with fireworks, Great fun, Shame bangers are banned.

Not any more - my little ones are a bit scared of the noise. We usually watch them from the window as there's usually a few displays in the area.

Miss the old days many moons ago - we used to make our own bonfire from asking neighbours for old bits of wood and we'd chuck tatties into the fire covered in tin foil. Had to wait for hours till the fire died down before we could recover the charred burnt thing back again - and still ate it!
