Remote Survalliance camera and recorder

Had my car broken into on my own driveway last night - they have utterly buggered my dash and caused about £500 of other damage all for a radio which sells on ebay for £50.

Anyway I am now keen to install a video camera looking over my car as a deterrent.

I would have to mount it away from my house so I will only have 240v and no ability to have a cable to a box. Thus it must be able to transmit the signal to a recorder box about 15m away.

Just need the one camera, cheap is good!

Anyone point me in the right direction?

This looks like the type of thing I'm after but I don't really need a screen and only need one camera.

Be good to get something cheaper.

sorry about your bad news, Im not too sure where else you could try, I would have thought of Maplin first too

You can buy a DVR for about a £100 , 4 channel ,fit your own hard drive . Cameras from £39.99 ,but there cabled . Maplins do [or did] a SENTIENT wireless colour/B&W camera for £80 . Quality is VERY ,VERY good . Comes with a mains adapters and a reciver unit .Fit the camera , link the reciever to the PVR and your off .

take a look at y-cam wireless easy to set up and has an optional housing for exterior use.
several models but one has a good infra-red feature, records to hard drive or sd card(optional) also had option to store footage off site for a small fee.

Cheap ones normally won't have a recorder with it. You can buy a wireless camera and connect it to your computer (wirelessly) for recording function. Something like this....

Cheapest all-in-one solution I can find is £119.99 @ Argos (With recorder).

Theres one at Tesco for £86.99. Not sure if that has the recording functionality.

Will post back if I find anything cheaper / better.

Hmm.....is this a good buy?

Seems to be a good all in one solution

My problem is possibly going to be where to put the transformer as I only have an outside light wire to tap into - no plug socket etc.

Sorry to hear about your car.. You must be gutted. Hope they catch the scum.

Word of caution though. I`m sure there`s some stupid laws regarding CCTV now is there not and that you must display a sign notifing people of CCTV being used and also make sure that it does only view your property and not public footpaths etc. Now, I hope I`m totally wrong about this, but wouldn`t want you spending a fortune on a kit and then get someone complaining about you using it and get fined or something stupid.

I have Y-cams scatterd about my property and they do the job, if you go down the road of a Argos/hombase kinda a camera you will get what you pay for. If you want to record and have good image use to be used for the police you will need to spend more on the equipment. Or perhaps just electrify your car? amazing1.com/sho…htm

Can anyone clarify how the y-cam works - if I was to get one with a 32gb card and just leave it would it record and delete continuously?

How much would fit on a 32gb card - ie would it store several hours of images which I imagine on 'motion detect' could equate to several days worth?

I do not have a permanent computer for recording and my car is fibreglass do no good for the 'shock alarm'!!

Y cam say that a 4 gb card set on alarm record motion detection only will last around a week, i have an 8gb card in mine and it lasts ages, You can set it to take jpg on detection or continuous movie or a movie on detection for a set amount of time. Once it reaches the end of the sd card it auto deletes the footage and starts again. You can set up the camera and sd cad to periodically send the footage to a hard drive like a backup or maybe an off site location in case someone breaks into your home and steals your camera and pc.

A 32gb card would last months on motion detection.

Thankyou for taking the time to reply - genuinely useful.

I did find something that says this does continuous recording but will only take 8GB cards.

I reckon I would only need a week of footage max so it sounds like this would be adequate - plu sit seems to have much better night visiion than most cameras.

I assume this has a transformer - got to think about how would do the wiring as I only have a cable to tap into (exisiting security light)?? Would probably need some type of watertight box and secure everything to the wall.

Price wise I'm looking at over £200 for the y-cam and outside 'shield' which makes it close to the maplin one I linked to earlier.......

try these for the y cam as they will price match and offer great support ask for Racheal.

just had a look and they have a pre built set up with 8gb card and outside housing for £189, may be worth a look
