Removing audio from YouTube

Is it legal to remove audio (music) files from YouTube?
If so, what website would you recommend to do so?

Yes unless it's fair use which essentially means using snippets of it and adding something to it
When you say remove you mean copy?

Would be illegal under copyright law if you're copying whole tracks.

As Gumbon says you can use short bits for things like commentary, education etc.

What are you intending to do with the music? Personal use probably nobody cares, using to generate money in any way and say hello to the lawyers.
"What are you intending to do with the music?"

The intention was to save the music as MP3 files for playback on my laptop later.
I needed to download some audio to transcribe the dialogue, I used a program called clipgrab.
