    RENAULT MONOPOLY RANT

Recently had problem with my Renault Scenic handbrake. Whole unit and computer handbrake needed to be replaced. Renault wanted £1,300 to do the job. Had it done at a local garage for £600.

Only problem is that the new computer needs to be coded and local garage could not do it, said it could only be done at a Renault garage. Rang them and got quote, said it would take 1 hour labour, cost £95.

So car fixed but still cannot use it becasue handbrake not operational. I don't accept that it takes an hour to do this and why labour costs of £95 per hour?

Would appreciate any suggestions please. Determined not to pay Renault this amount for a simple task.

Will be selling the car soon...and it won't be replaced by another Renault

The £95 ain't just for labour - it's for equipment etc.

    However, won't argue, mental price.

I'm pretty sure a lot of independent garages have the hardware and software to do this. Perhaps try asking on a Megane forum.

    Buy a Honda next time.

No parts needed the work is done.

Going for Toyota, most reliable car I ever had.

    I said equipment, not parts.

Equipment as in the diagnostic equipment they use, which costs a fortune.

Find another garage that specialises in Renaults, they will have the eqpt to code the computer.

I know its different but how about 20mins - adjust two notches on handbrake = £51!

    Thats BMW for you

Thanks guys. Trying to avoid the dealerships. Not easy to find alternative garages that have this.
