The Birkenhead fighter was known as one of the most colourful characters North West boxing ever produced.

He died on Friday.

In 1976 he represented his country at the Olympic Games in Montreal, then after turning professional proved a huge crowd pleaser at the Liverpool Stadium.

Davies was once labelled "the most dangerous puncher in British amateur boxing for many years", and his son, Robbie Davies Jnr, 27, has gone on to become WBA continental super-lightweight champion.
