    Rent???

    Sorry if this isn't allowed on here but my Husband has left me and my children in a privately rented property of £750.00 per month. I don't want to be a benefit taker but don't know what other options there are at the minute. I either need to find a job that earns about £1,000 a month and allows me to be around for my Children or seek help how ever my rent is more than what the Council pay. Has any body else been in this situation please?

    You can try applying for housing benefit, if you get a job that doesn't cover the rent, they will pay "some" of the difference

    Can't you come to some sort of agreement with the hubby to pay the rent, after all he still has some responsibility for providing a roof over the heads of his children

    First thing you need to do if you're not working is make a claim to benefits. Go online to gov.uk/ben…its and see what you may be entitled to. Also, with regards to how much housing benefit you may be entitled to, it depends on where you live in the country. Go Onto your local council website and type in local housing allowances and it may indicate how much help you may get with your rent.. Good luck with everything. Hope it works out well for you xx

    sorry this has happened to you. if your husband's name is on the lease as a joint tenant, he will need to pay half the rent (by law). if he refuses, i strongly suggest hiring a lawyer to ensure that he does indeed pay half the rent. even if his name is not on the lease, the fact that you are married may make him liable to pay some of the rent. regardless, i would immediately put in a claim to the CSA (child support agency) which will entitle you to 20% of his income for 2 children. This should at least help you pay some of the rent.

    also note, a landlord cannot evict you until 90 days has gone without payment. even then, they can only start proceedings in court, which would take several more months to actually get an eviction granted. so you have time.

I'd also call your council to tell them what's happened and apply for housing benefit and council tax relief. they'll probably require you to sign on with jobseekers first - you can call the jobseekers number to get an appointment.

    i have been there and it sucks, luckily for me i didn't have kids at the time. i know it doesn't feel like it now, but trust me, if this is the kind of man he is, you're better off without him. stay strong!

    Before you accuse me of beating him or cheating why don't you ask me and no I wasn't.

    If hes lead tenant on the tenancy hes responsible for the rent. if your both down as tenants you both have to resolve it between you. Because he has left you he should now pay child support for your children and you are eligible for housing benefit.

    If you have any children under 5 you are entitled to income support. But worth noting while your unemployed and claiming benefits such as income support any child support he pays goes to the department of work and pensions, not you until your in work yourself. The state will not support you if your ex partner is supporting the childeren.

    What you are saying is incorrect. The amount he will have to pay depends on many factors so not reallly 20%.

    He does not need to pay half the rent by "law" he can take himself off the tenancy tomorrow "by law" and only be responsibly for his half of the rent (if it even is a joint tenancy) for 1 month.

    Shes unemployed. CSA is useless if your unemployed. My ex partner did the same thing to me. I pay child support and she doesn;t get ANY of it because shes on benefits. CSA only helps if your steadily employed.

    You are correct in what your saying, but we both know he can go down the estate agents tomorrow and hand in his notice to be removed from the tenancy it is his legal right.

    OP who's name is the tenancy in for the house? We need more information to advise you currently we are all just guessing

    he will still liable for rent if in contract, ie they are not on a month-to-month contract, but a six month or yearly term. but then, she can leave too!!

    as espirit77 said, you are both liable for half of the rent each. Your half should be covered by the housing benefit allowance you will start receiving tomorrow when you go down and sort it out.

    How old are your children? You should still be receiving child tax credits and child benefit to live off. if one of your children is under 5 your entitled to income support also.

    Don't worry you will be fine. You should discuss child support options with your ex partner and what he plans to do regarding the tenancy. (pay his half each month as child support or remove himself)
