Replacement conservatory roof

I have the classic problem of being able to use my conservatory for a few days every year. Outside of these days, it's either too hot, too cold or too noisy because of the rain. Has anyone had a lightweight replacement roof installed to replace those rubbish corrugated plastic roofs please? Based South West.

wickes do the triple ply sheets which are easy to fit/cut to size.

I got a metal roof from versasteel.co.uk/ alternatively you could just put some battens in and plasterboard it. This would have the same effect without the cost.

Hi,had my tripple plastic poly carbonate roof replaced with heat reflecting ,self cleaning, thermal glass. No more noise, useable all year round plus you still have all the natural light. Hope this helps you decide one way or another.

I know prices would depend on individual specs, but how reasonable a cost was that. Are you looking at hundreds, couple of grand?

Just in the process of having it done now, old roof stripped off and new aluminium roof frame and ring beam fitted, ply screwed on and felted, insulated on the inside but the fitter just realised the wrong colour of tiles have been sent out ooops

oh and apart from replacing the roof, do you need window blinds in the Winter? Not bothered about privacy but heating as oil gets a little expensive. Thanks.

Thanks ding. Guess I need to start saving. Wonder how much replacing with glass is?

Have you checked with building control regards changing to a tiled roof?
You may also want to check if the upvc frames and cill are capable of taking the extra load.
Majority of cills will be hollow with no reinforcing.

Thanks am aware of building controI and am aware of the support issue thanks, as I mentioned lightweight in the title. Unfortunately, this is why a simple DIY solution won't work, so I may have to save for a lot longer, get it surveyed and installed properly!.
Thanks all.

The tiles are light weight the plaster is the heavy part but there is also the potential of over a ton of snow if we ever get a good covering, i did get a cheaper quote but it just involved covering over the original polly carb roof using the existing roof frame and without the building regs from the council but went with the dearer quote for a better job with all signed off by the council

Thoughts on replacement insulated roof panels? Seem lightweight and quickly fitted. Not sure on cost yet?
