My wifi from the BT is shocking. Looking to replace it with a new modem/router.

is this possible and which router would be recommended?

Thanks in advance.....

Router is fine for Wifi and it's more likely the placement of it. Problem is the master socket to most houses are situated apart from the living areas. Best option is to check to see if you can have either the master socket moved to a better area or wire a 2nd router to another area.
Some HH5 units can have dd-wrt installed but it depends if you have the correct revision to support it.
Chuck it in the bin and buy a decent bit of kit, I had no end of bother with the BT kit, also whilst the hub is present BT have a backdoor in. You could buy something like the Netgear D7000, great bit of kit IMO.
I fixed mine by going to Talk Talk improved the speed even though they are using the BT lines.
Fixed mine by leaving talktalk
Tried a home hub 6 , miles better than the hub 5 , tried and tested
