Replacing internal optical drive in laptop...

Alright computer misc. I've never replaced an internal optical drive on a laptop and was wondering if there is anything that I might have overlooked with this procedure... or if there is anything I can do to get the drive functioning properly

Basically the disc holder (black piece of plastic) has separated from the spindle of the drive. When I manually plug it back on it is able to read CDs but not DVDs or Blu Rays (It's a Vaio BD-RE drive)

I think it is done for and unfortunately it is out of warranty now, so I was thinking of just buying a replacement sony vaio internal BD-RE optical drive here:

    amazon.co.uk/Son…mtd

Then basically screw here and and there pull it out and plug this in.

Is that the best solution for getting blu ray functionality again on the vaio it's AW series?

Whatever I ordered it off ebuyer, cheaper and better imo, now for the disassembly instructions I guess.

Shouldnt be hard, usually it's just one or two screws then the drive slides out. Sometimes you might find said screw underneath a panel on the underside of the laptop.. Some times you find it under the keyboard!

Nah it's BD writer mate I think I did enough research, was going low stock at reputable suppliers so had to get the order in...find out soon.

Erm I found some diagram on the ODD tray assembly I think have a gander...

By my calculation is it 6 screws to remove the old drive and place the new one in?

Cheers for this. Oh it is less on scan, ah but haven't lost much, oh well I'm happy to pay little bit more as I've never dealt with scan before.
