    Restless Legs Syndrome

Ok, I'm sure there will be some joking

Anyone else have a problem with "restless legs"? The problem is keeping me awake at nights lately. Apparently there is no real cure for it. What do you do to prevent it happening to you?

LOL. Seems to affect women more than men. I'm confident about my gender btw :):p:-D

I'm no expert but I've heard its related to a Magnesium deficiency or a Vitamin B deficiency depending on your symptoms. Maybe try replacing them by taking multivitamins/minerals??

When I once had it, I found exercising the legs helped it go away.

My friend had this and was given potassium and magnesium supplements. It did go away for a few years but it has come back.

I do occasionally suffer from this problem, perhaps once every couple of months, but I can easily get rid of it by doing hamstring stretches.

I was taught how to do it correctly by a physiotherapist, and although he taught me for back trouble, I find it works for restless legs.

Stand by the bed and put the heel of your left foot on the bed. Then place your left hand on your knee. Now place your right hand on top of your left hand. Then gently slide both hands as far down your leg as you can. Don't do it in jerks! Push until it really hurts but do it slowly. Hold it there for a few seconds, for as long as you can. Now release.

Then do the other side. If that doesn't help immediately, to do it once more on each side.

I find that I can then go to sleep. No idea whether this is a cure that would be recognized by the professions, not can I be sure that what I am curing is really restless legs, but it certainly feels like it.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try (alongside the multi-vits) since I am not keen on the medication route.

I have heard that magnesium deficiency leads to night cramps. My father suffers from that and he found that a supplement helped. And yes, I find that hamstring stretches help with restless legs.

BTW, my father's night cramps were also exacerbated by wine. Very odd, but a glass of wine with a meal in the evening (even a small one) would almost always lead to cramping at night. Poor beggar!

I have had this for years, tried various remedies and then recently I started to take magnesium, one a day and then just before I go to sleep I have 4 New Era mag phos tissue salt tablets. Usually gets me through the night, if I wake up and think its starting I just have another 4 mag phos. Has cross fingers been working well for a few months now.

    Horrid condition

    Hope you find an answer

Do let me know whether it works. I'd be fascinated to know if my 'cure' actually works for someone else.
