    Return flight London to Melbourne

My mum has been quoted £1,300 for a return flight from London to Melbourne Australia for the period 23.08.2012 – 03.09.2012 with Singapore airlines.

This sounds steep to me. Anyone got any advice where I can get cheaper return ticket for this period? Possibly with another airline like Quantas if not with Singapore airlines?

I'm not an expert but I am guessing the price is high because A) Singapore Airlines are a premium airline B) Travelling to Australia August - September is expensive because of gap year students booking all the cheap tickets 6 months - 12 months in advance.

Use Skyscanner, best I can see is £821 return with Air Malaysia with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur or £894 with Emirates with a stop over in Dubai

    ok, damn the olympics. X)
although the olympics have done me a lot of favours as well as the rest of the UK economy so perhaps paying more for flights is not the end of the world.
