    RicherSounds 5-yr guarantee worth it?

Hi all, I'm currently looking for a TV, seems like RicherSounds has the best prices, so am probably going to end up going with them.

I was wondering what people's experiences are with the 5-year guarantee, I figured if I'm going to pay extra for it, it has to be somewhat hassle free if something goes wrong with my tv. Anyone had to use their guarantee? How was your experience if so?

I believe you get it back (maybe some of it) if you don't use it too, bit of a no brainer to me.

We went for it on the 2 tvs we got from them - Sounds like excellent value to me, and if you don't use it, can get it refunded a month before end of 5 years (or renewed I think)

Never had to use it though.

Really? How do they make money on it if you can get it refunded? heh

theres nothing on their site about getting it refunded if you don't use it.

they also used to loan you a TV while yours was getting repaired but it doesnt mention than anymore now

    ^^^ from the warranty page

If you use the policy in the 5 years, you’ll have saved yourself tens and perhaps hundreds of pounds. If you don’t… IT WON'T COST YOU A THING!

    * Simply return your unused Supercare policy within one month of the expiration date, and we’ll refund the price of your warranty.

You obviously do not need to purchase an extended warranty at the same time you purchase your electrical goods, and are entitled to shop around. But we don’t think you’ll get a better offer than this.

To take advantage of this phenomenal offer, simply ask!

There is a very limited window of time during which you can get a refund, most people forget. They also make interest on the money whilst they have it.

Ultimately, an extended warranty is an insurance policy. Insurance is there to reduce the cost should circumstances arise in which you need a claim. If they don't, you usually waste your money.

We pay house insurance year after year, just in case. If the house burned down, rebuilding it without insurance would be prohibitively expensive. Likewise, if your car was stolen it would likely cost too much to replace.

For small items, extended warranties have little value. If it would only cost £20 to replace, is it really worth another £2 to protect it? Most people can afford £20..so no.

Most extended warranties on consumer electronics cost about 10% and, whilst the value is the same, you simply don't need it on cheaper items. It all depends on how much you can afford.

I spent £1200 on my TV and didn't get the warranty. This saved me a bit of cash up front that is now in the bank. If it breaks, the sales of goods act will offer me some protection but I may have to pay some of the repair costs.

2yrs on, a replacement TV of the same spec will not only cost me about £600...so I'm not too worried. I wouldn't want the expense, but I could afford it if I needed to.

If you put 10% of everything you buy in a savings pot, you'll easily have enough money in the pot to pay for repair/replace as and when required.

    supercare isn't their TV warranty.
NO ONE LIKES TO THINK OF THEIR TV PURCHASE GOING WRONG.
BUT, ON OCCASION THEY DO, AND WHEN THEY DO, IT'S A HASSLE.
ONE THAT EVERYONE COULD DO WITHOUT.

We believe 5 Year TV Guarantee is the most comprehensive warranty out there. There are no third party insurance agents involved, no complicated claim schemes.

We’ll make life easy for you.

Unlike other retailers, we believe in charging a reasonable amount for our guarantee. We won’t shy away from calling our extended warranty an extended warranty, either. We know customers aren’t fooled by double-speak - we won’t bother to call 5 Year TV Guarantee a ‘support plan’ or a ‘product cover’. We won’t scare you with inflated repair costs and horror stories.

    We don’t need to.

    5 Year Guarantee works.

FOR JUST 10% OF THE PURCHASE PRICE FOR 5 YEAR TV GUARANTEE ON YOUR SCREEN, WE'LL ENSURE THAT AN IRRITATING SITUATION DOESN'T BECOME A LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARE.

    • We’ll cover your LCD or plasma screen for 5 years full parts and labour,
    • Collect and return your screen [if it’s 32¨ or over],
    • Give you a 45-day cooling off period if you have a change of heart, when you will get a full refund - no questions asked.*
    • Give you a like-for-like replacement if we can’t repair it.

*After 45 days, providing no claim has been made, you can also terminate the agreement and receive a pro-rata refund at any time.

Definitely worth it. Don't confuse it with the likes of a DSG extended warranty.

They seemed quite shocked when I called to arrange the refund of my 3 year Supercare policy.
I assume most people forget about it or leave it too late to claim.

I told them I couldn't get to the store so simply called them the day it expired and they refunded my card over the phone. Very helpful staff.

This all sounds great, thanks for all the reviews. It seems like something they use to keep customers happy rather than to scam customer's money. I think I'll be getting it

One thing people often forget is that you might be covered by contents insurance already, depends on the level of cover you have but it might be more economical to pay a little extra towards contents insurance to cover not just the TV but any other equipment you have in the house.

I never bother taking out the extended warranties on these things as our insurance will cover us if we ever need it. BUT you need to check first what you are covered for and what the excess is before assuming you can throw the tv around the room lol
