    Right... advice please :)

Ive noticed that one of the alloys i have bought has no tread on the tyre on the side... but on the limit in the middle... Now if i were to get pulled... Would i be given the chance to put my spare tyre or just give a £60 fine and 3 points even if i was "unaware?"

    discretion of the officer...
ignorance is not a justified reason im afraid.

In this weather I would just replace it :P

    But you are aware.....:whistling:

    Aware of what... :whistling:

Note: Each side of the central band of the tyre can be devoid of tread (i.e. ‘bald’) and still meet the pass standard.

Chances are if you think it's on the limit the cops will measure it as under anyway.

As above not worth the risk in wet / icy conditions.

If you have a new tyre find out why it's not wearing evenly.

Depends on who pulls you but to be honest is it really worth the risk to you and others?? The legal limits are there for your safety. It is the only thing that has contact with the road and keeps you safe

You may be just legal but are prone to punctures and in this weather is it worth it.

aware that you are already aware that if the police man is aware then he maybe aware that you are not aware thus making you aware of the tyre and making him not aware that he must not give you a ticket..........now your aware as i am aware......:w00t:

Just change it mate, why risk driving on bald tyres, theyre the only think stopping you skidding off the road!

Just so god damn beautiful :')

Um thats clearly illegal. I'd be surprised if they let you off!

Mate, a cop will spot that straight away. Imagine pulling up at the lights and besides you a copper pulls over - 3 things they will look at straight away - your eyes, your seatbelt and your tyres.

Just change it - its your duty to check your tyres.

And at the same time, get your tracking sorted out!

Can't believe you even have to ask....

IMHO if you don't, and have an accident and kill someone else (don't care if you kill yourself) then I hope they do you for murder! In a way I hope you have an accident hitting your own property but even then someone will have to come and clean up after you!

even a legal tyre at 1.6mm is really reduced traction in wet weather!

If you cannot afford to replace the tyre, don't use the car!

Pity you didn't show the numberplate as I would shop you straight in!

now if i was testing that I'd prolly pass & advise it, but cant really tell from the pic as i'd have to measure it.

but look at this link and scroll down to the pic as to why it might be ok.

Tyres at 1.7/1.8mm in the middle.. and the other side isnt worn like the outer... i would say its legal..

Personally, it looks like it would pass MOT to me:

However, if that is a front tyre, (which I would presume it is, and is out due to tracking errors), I would probably place it on the rear, giving you fresh tread at the front, thus avoiding relying on the 'bald section' when the tyre cambers during turning.
Of course the absolute best thing to do would be to replace it, (and have your tracking adjusted!). It's a nice looking car right now, but it won't be if that tyre chooses not to grip in the rain / snow over the next couple of days...

Its on the rear anyway... only just bought them a couple of days ago...so its not my car thats got the problem

As other have said, change it, not worth the risk imo, not to you, and certainly not to others that may be affected if you were to skid off the road...

They pretty much need replacing too.. but theyve still got like 2mm on them

What tool are you using that accurately measures to .1 of a mm?

Isn't the fine potentially a lot greater than £60 for defective tyres anyway? I thought it could be several thousand pounds + 3 points for each defective tyre. Sounds like they all need replacing and you know it, not sure its worth the risk, particularly as the police will love to pull you over...

They will let you change it - after they have nicked you and quite right - your putting your own life and others at risk for WHAT?
You have to change it sooner or later do it now -there will be 2in of snow tomorrow

True, go ahead OP take the risk, my mate did just that, and aquaplaned into a wall last january at 60mph, wasn't much fun going to a 24yr olds funeral.

Just think how much rubber is in contact with the road at any one time, about the equivalent of 4 playing cards, maybe less on fester tyres.

why think, crazy in this weather thats been promised.

wont ur parents borrow u the money till u get paid, better safe than sorry
